Today's award goes to a felon in Florida.
A Lake City man was jailed after he reported that his son had stolen his rifle.
The problem? The man, James Denson, is a convicted felon who is not allowed to own a rifle, the Lake City Police said in a press release.

Uh-huh. Before you call the cops to report a crime, make sure you're not implicating yourself in the same crime!

From my reading on the Internet, I gather that there are a large number of crimes (especially on the Federal level) that are technically felonies without being what people normally think of as felonies (serious crimes against persons or property). I short, the Government likes to classify a lot of 'crimes' amounting to 'disrespect of government' as felonies, and a person may please guilty to such a charge without being aware that it makes him a felon. Yes, his lower should have informed him, but if her is being represented by a pubic defender his lawyer may not necessarily be either competent or interested enough.
ReplyDeleteHe MAY be a doofus. He may be an example of the tendency of the State to treat Citizens like serfs.
No, he's very clearly a doofus on nearly the same level as the Florida man who reported that his housemate had stolen 1/4 pound of marijuana from him. He had his housemate tied up for the cops, and had done some preliminary questioning with lit cigarettes. The cops found his stash hidden in the A/C vent where he'd forgotten to hide it.
ReplyDelete"Forgot he'd hidden it", dammit.
