I love this Dilbert cartoon - particularly because I can recall having similar conversations with my bosses in the past (without the snappy comeback, unfortunately).

I learned that lesson from my parents before I was 5. I remember groaning to a playmate that I'd be gone all afternoon when Mom asked me to come inside for "just a minute." I pretty much was, too.
Were I the Pointy Haired Boss, I would have given up on doing anything with Wally some years back.
