Something rather different this morning, focusing on folksy down-home country humor of the kind we seldom see or hear nowadays.
The late Roger Miller performed many popular and hit tunes. He's perhaps best known for this one.
I've been listening to some of his music off and on over the past few weeks. I'd never before been exposed to his brand of musical humor, and I wanted to understand it in order to write better about people with that background and approach to life. (To learn about the heart of a people, listen to their music. It works surprisingly well.) At any rate, I've found a number of his songs that made me smile, and I thought I'd share some of them with you. In no particular order, here they are.
There are many more of his songs on YouTube. Enjoy!
Peter
Miller was a superb songwriter who early in his career was a member of Ray Price's band where he became friends with another great songwriter, Willie Nelson. In this video Price performs a Miller composition with Roger himself singing harmony. Great stuff.

I'm so glad you posted these. I heard a lot of these songs in my childhood and never knew the artist's name. Rollerskate in a Buffalo Herd was always good for a chuckle.
ReplyDeleteYou might want to give Ray Stevens a look.
ReplyDeleteHe’s best known for “The Streak”, I think, but my favorite is Mississippi Squirrel Revival:

I met him back when I was about 4-years-old. His half-brother was
ReplyDeletea buddy of my dad. Imagine him bringing a guitar and doing a
mini-concert for a little boy.
Javahead, you are mistaking Miller for Ray Stevens which is also
a favorite of mine.
