When our government abandons us to the mob

God bless Tucker Carlson.  He's one of the few voices of sanity remaining in the mainstream media.  Last night he played a tape of a 911 call in Fredericksburg, Virginia, in which the dispatcher openly said to the caller that the cops couldn't help her.  She was on her own, because the city had given permission for the rioters to do their thing.  Hear it for yourself, and please take time to listen to the entire four-minute-or-so segment that I've chosen to include.  (If you want to listen to the entire 15-minute report, so much the better, IMHO.)

(EDITED TO ADD:  If there are playback problems, watch the video on YouTube, from 6m. 48sec. to 10m. 29sec.)

So what would you do, dear reader, if you found yourself in that woman's position?  What would you do if rioters were running rampant through your neighborhood, with police simply driving past and doing nothing about it?

I know what I'd do.  I know what I will do, if it comes to that.  I have to accept that defending myself and my neighborhood will carry consequences with it, because the authorities in places like that are likely to paint me as the criminal for defending myself, rather than the rioters, looters and thugs who are attacking me and mine.  That sort of discrimination goes with the territory, I'm sorry to say.  When you take a stand, you make yourself a target for those who are spineless cowards seeking only to ingratiate themselves with the enemy and appease their hunger for violent retribution.  However, that does not mean you should not take a stand.

I don't believe in appeasement.  I'll let Rudyard Kipling explain why.

IT IS always a temptation to an armed and agile nation
To call upon a neighbour and to say: –
"We invaded you last night – we are quite prepared to fight,
Unless you pay us cash to go away."

And that is called asking for Dane-geld,
And the people who ask it explain
That you've only to pay 'em the Dane-geld
And then you'll get rid of the Dane!

It is always a temptation for a rich and lazy nation,
To puff and look important and to say: –
"Though we know we should defeat you,
we have not the time to meet you.
We will therefore pay you cash to go away."

And that is called paying the Dane-geld;
But we've proved it again and again,
That if once you have paid him the Dane-geld
You never get rid of the Dane.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say: --

"We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!"

That's what far too many liberal, progressive, left-wing local and state governments are doing right now.  They're "paying the Dane-geld" by pandering to the mob, rather than cracking down on its criminal conduct.  That can have only one future, as the mob grows more and more emboldened.

Frankly, I don't know how police in those areas can stand to look at themselves in the mirror every morning.  They're abandoning the people they've sworn to protect and serve.  By consenting to officially imposed inaction, they're making themselves part of the problem, not of the solution.  If, in future, they come to be regarded as part of the oppressive system that needs to be resisted, they will have no-one but themselves to blame.  My law enforcement friends and contacts are uniformly disgusted by what they're seeing and hearing.  Many of them are discreetly passing information to those who can do something more active about defending their families, homes and neighborhoods, ensuring that they're not caught unawares.  I'd say that's the least all cops should be doing right now - at least, all cops who take their oath of office seriously.

I told readers some weeks ago what was needed.  I can only repeat that advice, even more strongly.  You, and you alone, are your own and your family's and your neighborhood's first line of defense.  Accept that responsibility, equip and train yourself to fulfil it, and stand ready to do so - because you can't rely on anyone else, even the police, to do it for you.  It's that, or be a victim.  The choice is yours.

  1. Defense of home, self and family is now a revolutionary act.

    So be it.

  2. Peter, I'm in Fredericksburg, Virginia and I hadn't heard of that! Our cops dispersed a mob outside police headquarters with tear gas a few nights after this rebellion began, and then two nights later cleared the U.S. 1 bridge when a mob blocked it. I did not ever hear of 911 calls being blown off, or the cops allowing the mob to do its thing. I need to check this out!

  3. Tucker is becoming the voice of reason in this country. We have been lucky where I live. It may be a very large city (largest in Virginia by population) but is still a very small town in many ways and very conservative.

I live in one of the most culturally and racially diverse neighborhoods in Virginia Beach. We have not had issues here at all and I cannot think that anyone in this neighborhood would allow it if it did try to raise its head here. I for one will not sit by idly and allow it to happen. Of course in saying that I am probably the one who will sit in jail, not the idiots doing the destruction.

The most any protest has done here was smash a few windows at the "tourist" beach (which was rapidly quelled by the VBPD) and a few protests that screwed up traffic.

  4. What’s that saying? After you shoot the first rioter/looter/home invader, the rest are free.

  5. The police are not there to be some idealists who throw themselves onto a grenade for the greater good. They have shown that time and again. They are there to earn a paycheck and a pension. If that means that they accept pay for looking the other way, so be it. History is full of examples where the cops have simply "followed orders" so they could continue getting paid.

Example: Check out the cops who took cover behind a soccer mom's SUV during a gun fight last December, using the woman and her children as human shields.

Then there is the response I got from cops, who said: "Where should the cops have stood in that situation, right out in the open where they would have been shot? You’re confusing prudent behavior with suicide." Don't tell me that they are here to do anything other than earn a paycheck.

  6. I would add that stopping these people means taking a stand without revealing your identity. Sniping, hit and run, etc. appear to be the tactics needed. Shoot, run, shut up.

  7. Bear in mind that back in the 90's, the city rulers decreed that the police were no longer allowed to hire people that were gun owners/shooters. Take away those who are comfortable and familiar with shooting, and you tend to end up with groups like Dive Medic refers to. Mindset is everything.

I learned about the hiring prohibition from a couple cops at a shooting school class, who informed me that they had to lie about them being in the gun culture. They were able to pull this off, but said that many other were unable to accomplish it due to gun purchase records and other databases that the police had access to.

  8. It has always been that, after a clean justifiable shooting of a diversity crowd member by a non-diversity crowd member, where the shooter is let off, that about 6 weeks to 6 months down the line some prosecutor trying to appease the diversity crowd and improve his/her election chances will go after the non-diversity crowd shooter.

Even if the non-diversity crowd shooter is found totally innocent, he/she will have their lives destroyed by the media and the diversity-crowd, to the point that their family members will suffer.

Shoot if you have to, but be aware that all the powers of lawfare and yellow journalism will descend upon you no matter how righteous the shooting or self-defensing is.

Been that way since before Zimmerman. Been that way for at least 20 years. It's only gotten worse recently.

Seriously, getting the mom of a cop fired because she's the mom of a cop? WTHeck?

There are no limits to the extent the Left will use to destroy any resistance to their ideals.

  9. @ Divemedic:

    It's still the Three "S"s:

    Shoot
    Skedaddle
    Shut up

  10. Peter, I'm in Fredericksburg, Virginia and I hadn't heard of that!

I just saw the clip and wondered "I hope Steve and family are okay" And now I know you are from a blog in Texas. Funny old world!

Mr. Grant, I recently read your book Walls, Wire, Bars, and Souls. Really a useful book right now.

Have you seen David Wood's video? What do you think? I was struck by his categories vs. yours.
