That's what Mark Morgan claims. He's a former acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
“What we’re experiencing now on the southwest border is a complete, utter catastrophe ... We have lost control of the southwest border.”
During the 2021 calendar year, Border Patrol agents apprehended close to 2 million illegal immigrants from 150 different countries along the southwest border—more than double 2019, the last pre-pandemic year, according to CBP data.
Last year, Border Patrol agents detected but didn’t catch an additional 600,000 illegal border crossers, known as “gotaways,” Morgan said.
“That’s the equivalent to the size of the state of Vermont,” he said. “Think about the bad people that are in that 600,000 that got away.”
. . .
Although the public’s main focus is on illegal immigration numbers, Morgan said that’s just a subset of border security.
“When you open your borders up to one threat, one crisis, it’s not mutually exclusive from the others—you’re opening your borders up to the vast set of complex threats that we face,” he said.
“Anytime you’re so overwhelmed that you can’t perform the fundamental national security mission to secure our borders, the result is that every aspect of our nation’s public health, public safety, and national security is being impacted.”
The record numbers in 2021 occurred during a year in which many Americans, under the backdrop of a pandemic, faced vaccine mandates, work-from-home orders, and school closures.
Overcrowded border facilities were unable to test everyone for COVID-19, resulting in the release of illegal immigrants with the disease into communities. In July 2021, the city of Laredo sued the Biden administration for releasing a “flood” of illegal immigrants into Laredo, causing “irreparable harm.”
. . .
Morgan predicts the southwest border metrics will continue to worsen through 2022.
“There’s no end in sight. There’s none. And this administration, every single day, everything they’re doing is just to get better at releasing people. They’re not trying to stop the flow.”
. . .
Morgan accused Mayorkas of creating a “sanctuary country” for illegal immigrants, allowing them to come in and then shielding them from deportation.
“They’re trying to totally demolish ICE and make illegal immigration legal,” Morgan said, referring to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“Everything that they’re doing is making our border less secure and our country less safe.”
Morgan said he believes the open border policies are an intentional move toward more Democratic House seats through redistricting, now that illegal immigrants are counted in the Census. In addition, they expect illegal immigrants to eventually vote Democrat.
Republicans are also complicit, he said, because they still believe this country needs the illegal workforce.
“But there is a true marginalized American workforce that’s out there that’s having to compete with companies paying lower wages to illegal immigrants. That’s real,” Morgan said.

Given the parlous state of US voters rolls (see previous article), one wonders how many of these illegal aliens will wind up casting ballots in 2022 and 2024 . . .
This is, of course, nothing more or less than an officially sanctioned invasion. It would be nice to think that those responsible will face criminal prosecution and punishment for the way they've undermined the security of the United States - but that's a pipe-dream. They've gotten away with it so far, and they're determined to continue. Just think - 2.6 million illegal aliens made it into this country last year. If they keep up this pace, in the four years of a Biden Administration we'll see more than ten million illegal aliens admitted to this country, enough to change voting patterns for decades to come. Their motivation is obvious.
The question is, what are those of us who value our constitution and the rule of law going to do about it? So far, we've done precious little. We have to organize, to establish and empower and fund active, effective opposition to this, up to and including doing the job of securing our borders if our government won't - but nobody's willing to face up to that reality. It's long gone time somebody did. I'm doing what I can with what I have, but that's a private effort. We need some of our national figures to tackle this publicly, and not to let up on it.
For all his faults, President Trump had very effective border policies. What if he were to throw his weight, and the weight of his followers, behind such an effort?

No, 2.6 million illegals did not make it into the country this year. Most of the 2 million apprehensions got sent back to Mexico under Title 42. You're looking at more like a million illegals, which is still bad but not nearly as bad as over two-and-a-half million.
ReplyDeleteThat’s exactly what the treasonous Dem’s want, they would call this a success in order to generate more votes in November and beyond.
ReplyDelete@Tom: No, they weren't sent back under Title 42. Most were released into this country, after promising to appear in front of an INS judge in due course. Tens of thousands have already broken that commitment, and are now untraceable.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to disagree with Mr. Morgan, who was very briefly appointed by Obama to serve as the national chief of the US Border Patrol, a position he held without any border enforcement experience. He was appointed by Obama as a way to slap the Border Patrol. Morgan was an FBI headhunter.
ReplyDeleteThe border is under the total control of the Biden administration. They are importing millions of illegals. They only recently somewhat complied with a federal court order to reinstate the Remain In Mexico policy.
The Biden administration wants these illegals to enter, so they can add to their constituency. They know the current policy ties up the Border Patrol with processing the onslaught, thus removing them from large swaths of the border. They are forced to process and handle large groups of Other Than Mexicans (OTM). OTMs take much longer to process, especially if they are in groups including minors.
Unfortunately for America they are not only adding foreign people, but also poverty stricken ones. They require a vast array of support, especially with housing, education for their children, and food. Many will languish here for years while their worthless asylum claims make their way through our Immigration courts. The courts are bogged down, and for two major reasons; the first being the large number of cases; and the second due to Biden administration allowing immigration judges to be members of a union.
While the agents are processing (allowing aliens to select a name, date of birth, and even a nationality), the fentanyl is flowing across in record numbers. Just look at the 2021 US drug overdose deaths for confirmation.
Speaking from 5 years firsthand experience doing security right on the southwest border, some things you should know:
ReplyDelete1) "Gotaways" refers only to crossers that CBP sees, but doesn't catch. The ones they don't see (by any means, they don't (and can't) count. And most crossers, they don't see.
2) From firsthand observation, the number of crossers they see is, on their wildly most optimistic best day, only between 5% and 10% of actual crossers. Some days, it was less than 1%. Most of the crossers I helped apprehend (and that was in the thousands over that time span) were crossers CBP didn't even know about, and never would have, if we hadn't caught them for them.
3) That means if they apprehend 2M, another 18M got through without notice.
4) The Southwest border has been totally out of control for decades, not months. CBP has been lying to themselves and fooling themselves, the government, and the American people for that entire time. We were catching 100/day on one small section of the border, at a time when they reported - serially - that everything was "quiet". It took 5-10 same-day and day-before videos on Lou Dobbs and CNN before a certain one-letter dumbass in the White House started screaming at CBP to get our sector locked down. The result was 10 miles of 20' tall border wall that cut crossing from 100-200/day, down to 1-2 per month. In only that 10-mile stretch of our sector. Walls work.
5) Which put us out of business, as our ranch sponsor no longer had - by actual count of footprints - 50K-100K people crossing through his ranch alone, every year since 1980, when he started keeping track. It forced the cartels to push 5 miles east of us, or 5 miles west of us. Which they undoubtedly did.
6) Like any bureaucracy, the CBP operates under a simple principle: about 1% of their agents are hard-charging go-getters. About 30% do a very good job. About 30% are just there for the government pension and the cheese; they don't do anything bad, they just don't try very hard - or at all - to do anything good. Another 30% are on the take, crooked, corrupt, dirty, lazy, and wholly owned by the drug cartels. The last 9% are administration, and at nearly every level above the guys waving vehicles in, or manning checkpoints, most of those people are the most incompetent, and/or self-deluded f**ktards on the planet, and the most incompetent and ineffective ones rise to the highest ranks in the agency. As in all government bureaucracies. So when even those dimbulbs blow the rape whistle, the water on Titanic is above the Promenade Deck, and starting to come over the threshold of the ship's bridge door. Long past time to launch lifeboats, and organize the "abandon ship" procedure.
And I watched full-auto firefights between rival cartels across the border, less than 100 yards from US territory, in as far back as 2005, and couldn't get the local enemedia interested in covering that, for love nor money.
Proceed accordingly.
When you can't find 20 illegals at Illegal Alien Depot to fix your patio, in any of the Lower 48 states, you'll know the border is under control.
Not before.
Aesop,
ReplyDeleteI was one of the hard chargers and actually served more than a decade as a Border Patrol agent. I agree there are plenty of lazy agents, there were more hard chargers prior to the Obama and Biden administrations. This two demoralized the BP.
When it comes to "gotaways," the tracks of illegal crossers are counted and logged as getaways. Often the tracks are either determined to have been reported by a previous shift unit, or the agent works them back to a pick up point.
It is impossible to be a hard charger when the administration controls an open border policy. Manny agents have no choice, but to suck it up and process BS asylum claims. They have to feed their families, while often looking for another job.
The media was crowing about only 11 million illegals in the US 30 years ago. At least one million have entered the county each and every year since then. That means that by the most conservative count, there are now over 40 million illegals here in the USA. The real number is probably twice that.
ReplyDeleteAnd no, Tom, CBP/ICE doesn't repatriate so much as 1% of the catch.
Feature, not bug, as is always the case with the "unexpected" negative results of government policies.
ReplyDelete@Lone Ranger,
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain, and met many guys like you during my time on the line. The guys with Stetsons with sweat stains in the brims they didn't get from riding a desk behind A/C.
But I saw, time after time, and group after group, BP Barbie jeeps and dog catcher vans drive right over the spots where we'd watched groups cross, but they had expertly brushed out all trace. We logged groups of 40-50 on the reg, and called in as many as we could, but BP didn't even know we were there until we stood up and flagged them down, in most cases.
We caught BP agents asleep in their cars on post in broad daylight. Repeatedly. We saw miles and miles of border completely unwatched, because of sick call-offs. Pedro knew where the gaps were, and pushed groups through by the hundreds, 24/7. We watched the asinine shift change, where instead of relieving OPs with the new shift, the off-going shift would have to drive back to HQ, hand over the vehicles, and the oncoming shift would deploy. Leaving yuuuuuge gaps in observation for an hour a day, 3X/day, at 8AM, 4PM, and midnight, from Brownsville to San Ysidro, 365 days/yr. During which gaps, hundreds of northbounds would be pushed across, just in the 4 miles we had eyes on non-stop, around the clock, on only the days we were there.(Which was 3-4 days/week, on average. We all had full-time day jobs.)
And we still caught a significant percentage of total apprehensions in the sector we worked, year in and year out, with less than 8 guys.
With all due respect to the guys doing their damnedest, the entire BP machine has been an open joke for 50 years.
Because your Overlords WANT it to be a joke.
If they didn't, they could shut the entire border down tighter than a frog's butt in about 15 minutes, and keep it that way.
Ergo, NONE of TPTB want CBP to work right, nor effectively, which is why the last time it did was in the 1950s, during Operation Wetback.
QED
Aesop,
ReplyDeleteYou've identified with detail the debacle once known as "the border". It no longer exists....at all !
As you pointed out the Mexican border has been compromised for decades, not days; not months. Yet, here we are with the entrenched scoundrels of Washington District of Communists, pushing for armed combat with Vladimir Putin and his Russian military thousands of miles away. Although conveniently ignoring the hordes of foreign invaders attacking aross what once was the former USA's southern border. Attacking America at the invitation of the usurper biden right on our doorstep !
Meanwhile, what is left of America is under increased, physical attack. Under attack by enemies foreign (invaders attacking from the south) and domestic (biden, his cabal and the bulk of Amerikans) "working" in the District of Criminals.
As an aside Aesop, thank you for putting your accurate assessment in words here. There are few people who can compete with you and your descriptive commentary and essays.
