I'm emphatically not into rap, hip-hop or associated musical (?) genres in any way. However, out of that background has come some truly interesting "urban music" or "high-energy music" that defies classification, and brings new perspectives to those prepared to listen.
One such perspective is provided by Stomp. The group describes itself on their Web site:
Matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, and more fill the stage with energizing beats at STOMP: the inventive and invigorating stage show that’s dance, music, and theatrical performance blended together in one electrifying rhythm.
It's certainly different. Here's a 45-minute HBO special on the group. I enjoyed it.
Not my normal musical fare at all, but nevertheless interesting, I think.

We took our grandson to see them some years ago. It was a fantastic show.
ReplyDeleteWe saw then when they came to FL years ago they are great and hard working!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great show. Well worth the time and very different and very entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI have seen STOMP productions in NYC and the touring company when they came to Knoxville, TN. Amazing performances, great acrobatics, choreography, and percussion music.
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t be in that band. Afraid of heights.
ReplyDeleteI have been able to see the stage production three times now, and I have that video on DVD. Fascinating rhythm and choreography.
ReplyDeleteIn a similar vein, there is an Ausie group called Tap Dogs; rough and rude and extremely skilled tap dance ensemble.
