Sunday morning music

I'm emphatically not into rap, hip-hop or associated musical (?) genres in any way.  However, out of that background has come some truly interesting "urban music" or "high-energy music" that defies classification, and brings new perspectives to those prepared to listen.

One such perspective is provided by Stomp.  The group describes itself on their Web site:

Matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, and more fill the stage with energizing beats at STOMP: the inventive and invigorating stage show that’s dance, music, and theatrical performance blended together in one electrifying rhythm.

It's certainly different.  Here's a 45-minute HBO special on the group.  I enjoyed it.

Not my normal musical fare at all, but nevertheless interesting, I think.

  4. I have seen STOMP productions in NYC and the touring company when they came to Knoxville, TN. Amazing performances, great acrobatics, choreography, and percussion music.

  5. I couldn’t be in that band. Afraid of heights.

  6. I have been able to see the stage production three times now, and I have that video on DVD. Fascinating rhythm and choreography.
In a similar vein, there is an Ausie group called Tap Dogs; rough and rude and extremely skilled tap dance ensemble.
