A few days ago, Tucker Carlson spoke at a rally in Michigan. He didn't pull his punches. Here's a five-minute excerpt that's well worth your time.
The entire speech (about 1h. 18m. long) may be viewed here.
He's right, of course. Most of our elected leaders (with a few - a very few - honorable exceptions) don't give a damn what their constituents want. They get elected, get cozy with their fellow lawmakers, make a lot of money out of pandering to lobbyists and corporate interests, and forget about the schmucks at home until it's time to get re-elected - at which time they make all sorts of noises that their constituents want to hear, and hope that we'll forget about or ignore their dereliction of duty and their little peccadilloes since the last election.
Will Rogers said it best - and often.
Anything important is never left to the vote of the people. We only get to vote on some man; we never get to vote on what he is to do.
America has the best politicians money can buy.
The short memories of the American voters is what keeps our politicians in office.
This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as when the baby gets hold of a hammer.
There ought to be one day - just one - when there is open season on senators.
You'll find more of his quips on politics and politicians here.
I'm sure many of us would agree that he was right.
Peter
Open season and no bag limit.
ReplyDeleteIt's coming and they know it. Most of them can't walk down the street now as it is.

ReplyDeleteGosh, I wish those extraterrestrial aliens in their round silver spaceships would stop installing these awful politicians in office. Instead, we ought to invent a system where the humans being ruled select who they want to rule them every few years.
ReplyDeleteExactly Tuck,
ReplyDeleteAnd this is why government should be as small and powerless as possible.
