Memes that made me laugh 198

RE: That "magic black hat" meme - saw a post some years back in which a housing development had problems with "random pilfering" of items from yards and garages which wound up being traced to "individuals of undetermined origin who clustered around the convenience store adjacent to the development."
Several residents approached the home owners' association with a proposal to create an Independent Neighborhood Services group within the HOA, composed of residents willing to assist other neighbors, such as occasional grocery shopping for elderly residents, lawn mowing while they were on vacation, etc.
The public service organization was approved by the HOA, so hats and jackets in an attractive blue color labeled with the group's initials in bright yellow were purchased and issued to those interested in participating, with the instruction to wear them while performing public service tasks so residents would be aware that services were being provided.
Strangely, within weeks the "random pilfering" problem disappeared. It was noted that the decline of the problem seemed to oddly coincide with the number of purchases the group's members made at the adjacent convenience store.
Like you said, Clifford, ...several years ago. I wouldn't want to wear anything like that now because I would probably be harassed for not providing them with their EBT card, hotel room, etc. To paraphrase an old Oldsmobile ad campaign line, "This ain't your father's America".
Much as I love the Amazon truck, if Mr Softee comes down my street, I am running after him. It might kill me, but dammit, I'm getting me some ice cream.
Ah, Peter Looking to your next book. And, Dorothys as well. You two write, I buy; its not even a decision. I still read Going Ballistic at least once a year. You two were made for each other.
Show shovelling lessons. Somebody has been reading Mark Twain. Specifically Tom Sawyer. Fence painting. Loved your long / cross bow comments.Take a bow. Isn't English wonderful.
