This Newsweek headline says it all:
I've heard of long-term conscription, and military service "for the duration", but this is ridiculous! Are they planning to call up the corpses from the local graveyard, too?
(Perhaps I shouldn't have said that. It might give the current personnel-deficient US Department of Defense ideas . . . )

They're just keeping up with the Ukrainians, who are drafting pregnant women for combat.
ReplyDeleteJust the Russians going Old, Old, Old School. In the early 19th century, while fighting Napoleon, the term of enlistment for Russian soldiers was 25 years, also putting most of them in service beyond their life expectancy. Everything old is new again!
ReplyDeleteThe interesting bit is that they don't seem to have much trouble getting young men to volunteer for the fighting in the Donbass. On the other hand one could say much the same about Hamas finding recruits everywhere.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure Newsweek is a reliable source, especially when they shifted from potentially reporting a fact to yet another "go Ukraine go" commercial. Objective reality is, Ukraine cannot win and the decree is a public illustration of the Russian will in the matter. Zelensky has destroyed his country.
ReplyDeleteBingo. Nothing more than a propaganda arm of the regime.
DeleteNewsweek still exists?
DeleteI think some politicians know how that is done.
ReplyDeleteC'mon man! Didn't the US lead the world in making sure that the dead can keep voting long, years-long after they reached room temperature...?

Yup, the times they are getting tough.
ReplyDeleteThe Greater Depression is coming.
Politicians here in the US routinely get Dead people to vote. Russia getting dead men to serve in their military is clearly the next step. We have to keep up. We must not have a zombie gap!
ReplyDeleteForced conscription of bad males as punishment is too valuable for the R's to only use it on young people. Now they can use the "you're going to Ukraine" threat much more universally.
ReplyDeleteI can see DARPA now, working on re-animating Arlington......
