Today's award goes to the mayor of St. Louis, Tishaura Jones, who spoke thus at the Black Mayors’ Coalition on Crime:
“We have a lot of violence around convenience stores and gas stations. So how can we hold those business owners accountable and also bring down crime? Some of the things are already doing, we’re finding other mayors are doing as well.”
Er . . . um . . . come again?
You're going to hold business owners accountable for the actions of criminals in and around the areas where those business owners operate?
WHOSE FAULT IS CRIME, ANYWAY?
If you're going to go after business owners for crimes committed by others, pretty soon you won't have any business owners within your city limits. Then your citizens won't be able to buy food, get their vehicles serviced, or do anything else that requires a business to provide the service. Then where will your precious city be???
I repeatedly think that we've plumbed the absolute depths of human stupidity . . . only to be proved wrong again and again by doofi such as Mayor Jones.

This is what you get when idiots are allowed to vote....they vote for other idiots.
ReplyDeleteHey Peter,
ReplyDeleteI heard about this St Louis Mayor, Can't blame his constituents for "misbehaving" mind you...Can't hold them responsible, That would be terrible.. they are children after all and rely on the nanny state government to tell them what to do mind you. This how you get a food and gas desert and the locust will go farther afield looking for places to to steal from and some places are not as forgiving as inside the city limits and their career as a criminal will come to a screeching halt.
Of course it must be someones' fault. And since it absolutely cannot be the fault of those politicians in charge, it has to be the fault of those greedy shop owners.
ReplyDeleteStandard tactic of a certain type of liberal progressive, divert the anger of those being affected onto a straw man so as to escape blame themselves.
//... pretty soon you won't have any business owners within your city limits. Then your citizens won't be able to buy ...//
ReplyDeleteIn Mayor Jones's ideal St Louis the populace won't have to buy anything: the city will provide it. And if the city doesn't provide it, it isnt needed.
.
At least he didn't call to ban assault gas stations and stop and robs.
ReplyDeleteDemographics.

You hold me accountable for the actions of crazy people with guns. You hold me accountable for the actions of big coastal cities trash collection officials, who dump garbage containing plastic grocery bags into the ocean. That's what taxation does: charge the prudent people for the actions of the wasteful. If you stopped punishing the innocent for the actions of the guilty, there wouldn't be any government at all.
ReplyDeleteWell, TBH, most of their "businesses" are probably street drug dealers.
ReplyDeleteSome politicians are only alive because it's illegal to shoot them.
ReplyDeleteThis idiot is a shining example of that.
She ought to get down on her knees and pray earnestly for the continuation of the rule of law, or she's going to have a short and interesting career the day after it fails.
I don't know if you have ever read the April Series of books by Mackey Chandler. All his books are great reads with a libertarian bent. How it applies here is that he is awesome at projecting forward for political trends of mental insanity in policy and control. He does little quick quotes of current news stories in the book to set the mood for the main characters in a way that I have always loved. That blurb you put up Peter is frighteningly similar to stuff he was putting into his books set a hundred years in the future when he started the series more than a decade ago. I scares me that we are going to hell in a hand basket even faster than a science fiction author creating a truly horrible fictional government in his books was able to imagine in our far future.
ReplyDeleteIf you want a great read any of his books, whether a one off or part of one of his series is a dangerous thing to start. His books are like potato chips you just can't stop at one :) Sorta like yours :) His stuff is in some ways similar to yours Peter, you hit the action a little harder and he hits the political world building a bit more. I'm currently anxiously awaiting both of your next books :)
Based on Wikipedia (admittedly not the greatest source for information) this person fully satisfies the description of 'a fecking eejit'. What does that say about the electorate though?
ReplyDeleteDan is right, however you have a corrupt Mayor so they do not want to jail criminals.
