The literal "mother" of all military leave requests

I'd say that's a pretty good reason to apply for leave, wouldn't you?
Picking nits, that's actually a "Special Liberty" request, rather than a leave request.
The difference is minor from a civilian's perspective...he's still requesting time off...but as a retired sailor of 21 years who's filled out, reviewed and signed countless numbers of those forms (known as a "special request chit") it stood out to me.
There was an unfortunate saying among submarine officers that the job was so demanding that the men would only be home for the birth or the conception and they could choose which. Sadly, I witnessed this as mostly true.
Higher Ups sent word down to us peons that too many SRCs were being submitted for "frivolous reasons". Gotta be serious, y'know? Shipmate subsequently submitted his for "Just Because". It was approved.
So much for the "Don't add to or remove from the population" advice when going on leave...
