I think he's got it
Comedian Don McMillan "cracks the code" for every Hallmark channel Christmas movie ever.
Unfortunately, he restricted it to movies made for and shown on the Hallmark channel. I don't think "Die Hard" would fit into his matrix!
About 15 years ago, I was leaving the seismic crew via a Chinese fishing boat. The "entertainment center" was a laserdisc player. The single disc had a lot of Burmese movies, all with the same plot.
She loves me. She doesn't love me anymore. Oh wait, she does love me. We drive off in my (prominently displayed) new van.
I beg to differ, Mr. Grant: in Die Hard, a cynical workaholic husband travels across the country to reconnect with his estranged family during the holidays. How many Hallmark movies have that exact plot?
Why couldn't we do a Sci-Fi variant? Think of a space opera with a Hallmark theme at Christmas. The USS Enterprise or perhaps an Empire Battlecruiser is in orbit above a Christmas planet - same proven plot with something that's not quite a dog which unites human and alien in a chaste and heartwarming joining.

Soon with AI you'll be able to fill in the categories and software will generate a movie for you.
ReplyDeleteThe variations are so small...sigh

ReplyDeleteAs stereotyped as a “hero’s journey” movie or Marvel film.
