When former President Reagan referred to the former Soviet Union as the 'evil empire', he wasn't joking. It was, indeed, evil to its core, elevating the State to supremacy and degrading the value of the individual to such an extent that millions died without hope at the decree of the Communist Party and its minions.
That evil lives on in a few states to this day. One of them is North Korea, which has just demonstrated the evil of its ruling elite in the starkest possible terms.
A North Korean factory worker has been executed by firing squad for sneaking news out of the country on his illicit mobile phone, Seoul-based radio said today.
The armaments factory worker was accused of divulging the price of rice and other information on living conditions to a friend who had defected to South Korea years ago, Open Radio for North Korea reported.
The man, surnamed Chong, made calls to the defector using an illegal Chinese mobile phone, according to an unnamed North Korean security agency official cited by the report.
The execution took place by firing squad in late January in Hamhung, according to Open Radio for North Korea. The station broadcasts into North Korea, which tightly controls news.

Killing a man for conveying the news of the price of rice???
This regime must be not just removed, but utterly destroyed. It's beyond hope, beyond redemption or change. For so long as it exists, it's a brand of shame on the face of humanity.

Indeed. But I'd also caution that what is said in the media often does not correspond to any smidgeon of truth.
ReplyDeleteWe all know about the WMDs and such and how according to many reporters there was "irrefutable proof" of their existence...
More recently, the global warming science was also "irrefutable"...
Having said that, there are a great many other reasons why that regime should disappear!
With all due respect, Peter, but what they do to their own subjects and rectifying that behavior is not the proper business of the US.
ReplyDeleteNow, what they do to us is a total 'nuther matter.

North Korea's political regime is the natural ultimate evolution of Statism wherever it has been tried. The corrupt people in power only maintain that power by the barrel of a gun aimed at their own people.
ReplyDeleteWhile I do not think that we in the USA are anywhere close to this ourselves, the policies being attempted by the current ruling elite are the foundational groundwork for enabling something like this. If you care to look, look at the enforcement mechanisms built into the Health Care bill and the Cap and Trade bill. You will find that failure to obey is punishable by fines and prison. Failure to accept said fines and prison by refusal to pay, or by resisting arrest will bring the full force of government to your door. Government will take all that you have in retaliation, will probably shoot your dog, and if you resist arrest will kill you.
Sound far-fetched?
Look at what they do to people who own too-short shotguns, or rifles that shoot more than one bullet (either by design, or by accident like Olofson's) with a single trigger-pull. Look at what they do to people who wish to consume the wrong chemicals. Look at what happens to people who are vocal about resisting the usurpations of government.
Then tell me that it won't, or can't, happen here.
