From South Korea comes a report of a sleepy driver who caused rather more damage than usual. The Austrian Times reports:
Red faced army officials have apologised after a tank left a trail of destruction when its driver nodded off at the controls.
The South Korean military vehicle was returning from an all night training exercise near the North Korean border when it suddenly accelerated and veered off the road.
The massive tank crushed two cars before ploughing into four trucks as terrified drivers and pedestrians ran for cover.
One driver escaped death by inches, gripping the steering wheel in disbelief as the tank ploughed through the passenger side of his car, leaving it a mass of twisted metal.
The tank only came to a halt when it careered into a shopfront and stalled, waking up still sleeping driver Yeon Lee, 32, say local police.
Astonishingly, the only casualty was Lee, who was taken to hospital with injuries to his head and chest.
Looking at the wreckage of those cars, I hope the drivers got out and immediately bought lottery tickets. With luck like that, they can't lose!

I didn't know that Toyota made tanks.
ReplyDeleteLooks more like an upgraded M-60. Don't know the look of a Leopard I/II. Definitely not an M1---turret is wrong shape.
