Today's award goes to a law student at Georgetown University in Washington DC. CNS News reports:
A Georgetown co-ed told Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s hearing that the women in her law school program are having so much sex that they’re going broke, so you and I should pay for their birth control.
Speaking at a hearing held by Pelosi to tout Pres. Obama’s mandate that virtually every health insurance plan cover the full cost of contraception and abortion-inducing products, Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke said that it’s too expensive to have sex in law school without mandated insurance coverage.
Apparently, four out of every ten co-eds are having so much sex that it's hard to make ends meet if they have to pay for their own contraception, Fluke's research shows.
"Forty percent of the female students at Georgetown Law reported to us that they struggled financially as a result of this policy (Georgetown student insurance not covering contraception), Fluke reported.
It costs a female student $3,000 to have protected sex over the course of her three-year stint in law school, according to her calculations.
. . .
At a dollar a condom if she shops at CVS pharmacy’s website, that $3,000 would buy her 3,000 condoms – or, 1,000 a year.
There's more at the link.
Quite apart from why we taxpayers should be expected to pay for someone else's use of contraception (which is an entirely personal, voluntary decision having nothing to do with health as such), what gets me is that Georgetown is a Catholic university. The moral code of the Catholic Church frowns upon extramarital sexual activities of any kind, and also condemns artificial contraception. Therefore, either Georgetown University isn't particularly rigorous about enforcing its moral code and that of its parent church, or Ms. Fluke isn't a particularly observant Catholic! Either way, can you say 'hypocrisy'? I thought you could . . .
I guess, under the circumstances, I'd have done better to give today's Doofus award to both parties!
*Sigh*

Well.... I may be condemned for saying this.... but if those law students can find time for sex thrice a day, every single day of the year, for three years straight.... I would have to consider that a genuine miracle, and the Catholic doctrine adores miracles.
Unless, of course, they are abusing the truth at this hearing.
I'd happily pay for their sterilization - Post-grads that stupid should not reproduce!
Carteach0 ,
It's part of their law studies. "Lawyer/Client relationships 101.
They have to get the technique down right.
Haven't you ever been screwed by a lawyer before?

There are rumblings now in the blogosphere that the co-ed Ms Fluke is an activist and was planted so it is in her interest to cook the books and inflate(pardon the pun) the need.
She's a shill.

they're going to be lawyers, just practicing for what they're going to do for their careers.
Well, it's really hitting the fan now: Hitler just learned that Georgetown University's health insurance doesn't cover contraception
