If you thought my puns were bad . . .

. . . you really need to follow Stephan Pastis' comic strip Pearls Before Swine.  He regularly inserts very punny cartoons, usually ending with Rat threatening or killing him for his abuse of the language.  Here's yesterday's effort.  (Click the image for a larger view at the comic's Web site.)

That had me laughing out loud.  Puns and limericks - among the higher forms of humor . . .

Excellent.

I've got one that only works in text.

No matter how kind you are, German children are kinder.

If puns are your thing, check out the annual Bulwer-Lytton Bad Writing contest. Bulwer-Lytton was the author of that classic opening line: "It was a dark and stormy night." One division of the contest is to write a pun on that opening line. Whenever I need a laugh, I visit the website for a while. What usually happens is I lose track of time and laugh so hard my mascara runs. Try it. Just don't read that site in public or someone will call the cops on the crazy person snort-laughing at his laptop.
