That's the title of an article by Brandon Smith, whom we've met in these pages on several occasions. He proposes some radical steps, but points out that until relatively recently they were considered normal by most Americans. It's only since the loony progressive left gained prominence that they've been pushed aside.
National solutions require millions of Americans get off their couches, go outside, and take extensive risks. This is why human beings in general tend to adapt to the worst conditions until things are so bad society snaps. We wait until we can’t stand it any longer, and then finally, we take action.
. . .
The thing is, time is running out and debate is a luxury. I believe Americans today are close to the breaking point economically with stagflation continuing to crush the middle class and those already in poverty. The future is bleak; housing costs have spiked to levels beyond what the vast majority of people can afford. All necessities including food and utilities have seen a 30%-50% minimal price increase since 2020, and inflation continues to rise.
Wages are stagnant and profit margins for employers are shrinking, which means the jobs market will be next to see cuts. By the end of 2025 and under current policies, I suspect we will be witnessing a combination of serious deflationary and inflationary crisis events simultaneously. A crash in employment and GDP combined with incessant price jumps on goods and services. This crash has been decades in the making and might be unavoidable. That said, I do believe there is a way out, but it requires dramatic changes in the way our government and society operates.
The policy measures I suggest are a kind of fiscal time machine – A way to turn back the clock on collapse. Some might consider them “radical” but they are only policies that America USED TO value and that we have been pressured to forget. Can the modern American brain with its steady exposure to big government and socialist programs handle such a shift? It’s hard to say.
There's more at the link. I won't steal Smith's thunder by going into each of his proposals, but I recommend that you click over to his article and read it in full. It's worth your time.
Whoever wins November's elections for the Presidency, House and Senate is going to face a very serious economic situation. Will they have the courage to stake everything on a radical solution, as President Milei is doing in Argentina (and, at least to some extent, succeeding)? Or will they "kick the can down the road" in the hope that by the time everything crashes down, they won't be in office and can't be held accountable?
Your guess is as good as mine.

I must admit that his ideas do make sense.
"... in the hope that by the time everything crashes down, they won't be in office and can't be held accountable?"
Who's to say that malfeasance has an expiration date?
I didn't see anything about the elderly; people over 70.
The left still OWNS the election machinery... including Dominion Voting Systems, PLUS all the agencies and entities tasked with keeping voting honest. Add in that if the lose many of them face prison time or worse. What do you think they are going to do....
While Dan is corect they DO OWN the election machines and media.
I wonder if they are playing the Nobody named Smith against Republican Canidate Hoover game again.
The smart money knew the Great Depression was near and the Dems CHEATED-Campaigned FOR Hoover as to let the Republicans "WIN" in time to eat the Great Depression.
If Trump "Wins" not only will Trump and MAGA eat the Greater Depression-Bankruptcy of America, and the party of Chaos will release their dogs of chaos to create terror and destruction.
You notice AntiFa has been very quiet lately? Still there, still on the DNC's payroll. A LOT of Military Aged Male Illegals with Gov.com issued cellphones and credit cards.
You think they will be sitting around quietly when the EBT cards DON'T BUY anything?
Trusted friends and trusted family are better than gold in a time of real trouble(tm).
Agree, malfeasance should NOT have an expiration!
Being a bit cranky this am, I think that the best solution might be to do massed executions of federal, state and local employees in non-Constitutionally mandated agencies. For members of the House and Senate, staking them out in Death Valley might be the best approach.
I don't have time now to read the article, but I will later today.
This mysterious and nebulous "they" can't be playing that game again, because "they" weren't playing it the first time. In 1924, Al Smith was one of two major contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination, though he failed to achieve it. Also, the election was a landslide for the GOP. By 1928, he had managed to put together enough of a coalition behind him that everyone kind of accepted that he would be the nominee. The election was still a landslide for the GOP.
40% if GDP is gov't spending, local, state and federal. A lot of state funding is from grants from the Feds, local comes from the state. Land tax means you lease your land from the govt and should be ended. A sales tax should be enacted with most staying local. No income tax, even for high earners. That was the foot in the door that allowed our current tax.
All this means nothing without slashing spending. 19% of GDP is healthcare. See Carl Denninger on market ticker. The whole system is rotten. Social Security and Medicare/Medicade are tsunami's waiting to wash over us. In foreign affairs we don't keep the promises we make, soon this will be true for our social programs as well.
Best (?) case scenario: The R's win the trifecta, and in the aftermath, they proclaim that the best government is the one that does the least, and prove it by doing NOTHING.
Over 2/3rds of Federal spending is "mandatory" payments to individuals. Until we make a difference there, anything else is just trimming around the edges.
Once we've made headway there (and notice I'm NOT counting Social Security in that number), then it will make sense to address other issues.
The entire executive branch has a budget smaller than the military, which needs its own reforms.

the can will be kicked as always
As long as government casts no reflection in a mirror, I'll not trust it. Vampires don't feel guilty for their thirst. What government cannot extract through their regulation of the complacent must be looted. Lots of looter/revenu-oors/tax farmers will eventually have to decide whether their "job" is worth their lives. Because that's what's coming if history is any guide. Some of Brandon Smith's ideas are promising, but none of it will happen through political means. At least half the electorate is going to be mad as hell at Thanksgiving dinner this year, presuming the election takes place.
Just like They-who-may-not-be-named have planned for us. Anyone who thinks that this is about Republicans and Democrats isn't paying attention, i think.
Brandon Smith is notable for responding promptly and frequently to his commenters. The comments and responses are worth reading, not infantile oneupsmanship like many have become now.

Nor should it. Its not the role of gov to take care of anyone, its supposed to keep out of our way so we can take care of ourselves. Gibs are gibs and they're never legitimate.
