Faith, incentivized!

Stephan Pastis does it again.  Click the image to be taken to a larger version of the cartoon at the "Pearls Before Swine" Web page.

At least it wasn't bourbon.  That would have been filled with the wrong kind of spirit...

Is there a patron saint of caffeine?

How many of you googled to see if Saint Arnold is indeed the patron saint of Beer?

Yes, his name is Juan Valdez.

One of the first microbreweries in Houston is St. Arnold's.
They make a good product, now available in grocery stores, too.

I have a T-shirt with St. Arnold holding up a gleaming light in the shape of Texas.

St. Arnold (Arnoul) of Soissons who brewed beer and encouraged others to drink as it was safer to drink than water which was contaminated with pathogens.

Having bought the makings for my next batch of home brew yesterday.

I do 120 litres in a batch. Which is about 14 cartons of stubbies. (Sounds a lot but you don't have to have drunk by today what you bottled yesterday - that is about a 3 months ration)

Coopers Pale Ale here is about $A70 a carton, so $A980 equivalent cost.

Actual cost for the Coopers DIY Beer, sugar etc is about $A140. About 2 hours to mix the batch and about half a day to bottle it

Always a brisk business selling the local men some pathogens to toss into the local water supply to make sure no AWFL turns off the beer forever. :)
