How about a rather splendiferous feast . . . at a cost of only $2,000 per person?
The experience is available at the Vivat Bacchus restaurant in London, England. They'll serve it to a maximum of six guests, and it must be booked 48 hours in advance.
The meal begins with a glass of champagne (what else?). Then comes:
- Royal Sevruga caviar accompanied by Kaufmann vodka;
- Fresh Bahama rock lobster linguini with a glass of Forrester Chenin white wine;
- Joselita two-year-old matured ham from Spain with a glass of Vega Sicilia Unico red wine;
- Grilled Wagyu fillet steak from Australia with a glass of Chateau Lafite Rothschild red wine (at $1,300 per bottle);
- A selection of Europe's finest cheeses with a glass of 1963 Taylor's port;
- Valrhona Belgian chocolate soufflé washed down with a glass of Chateau d'Yquem dessert wine (at $990 per bottle);
- And to round things off, coffee and a snifter of Martell Cordon Bleu cognac.
The restauranteurs claim that about a quarter to a third of the cost of the meal is the food: the rest is for the wines. (See the video clip below.)
This isn't the first food extravaganza that Vivat Bacchus has produced. Last Christmas they offered a gourmet hamper containing 21 bottles of wine and spirits, including a bottle of Romanée Conti 1970 at $30,000 and a Richard Hennessy Cognac at a mere $4,000, various cheeses, luxury chocolates, more than two pounds of Royal Beluga caviar and a leg of Spanish Joselita ham. The price? A mere $90,000 . . . and they took orders for a dozen of them!
If you'll excuse me, I'm going to munch on cheese and crackers while I think about this.
