Last month I wrote about an experiment being conducted by Philips in the Norwegian city of Longyearbyen. The town gets twelve weeks of permanent darkness during the winter, when the sun never rises. To combat the sleep disorders common in such extreme climes, Philips developed the Wake-Up Light, and decided to test it on (and with the help of) the residents of Longyearbyen.
The experiment is ongoing, but initial results seem encouraging. Philips have released this video of how things are progressing. It's worth watching it in full-screen mode.
Readers who live in darker climes might want to check this out for themselves. No, Philips isn't paying me to mention it, and I don't earn a commission from them - I just think it's a neat idea, if it works.
