How many infractions? Let me count the ways...

From Bill Melugin on X:

DHS announces the ICE arrest of a Liberian illegal alien who they say was working as a Minnesota corrections officer while also being AWOL from the PA National Guard, all while masquerading as a U.S. citizen despite having no legal status in the U.S.

There's more at the link.

I'm tempted to call it American enterprise at its finest, except that there's nothing American about him.  I'd love to follow his paper trails in those various organizations, to see precisely how they all came to let him slip through the cracks.

You would think that a background check would be run on both becoming a member of a National Guard and also before being hired as a corrections officer.
One wonders if there's bribery and/or pressure applied. If so, how did he get someone to apply same?

There's a lot to that whole trope "act like you belong there an no one will question you".

Here's how I see it. I play Euchre. It's a Midwestern game somewhat similar to spades.

Part of the game is following suit. If you fail to follow suit and get caught, it's called "reneging" and grants the opposing team two points.

Because this is defined specifically in the rules with a defined penalty, many people who play the game consider reneging just part of the game. There's no penalty for doing it and getting away with it, and if you get caught, you lose two points...part of the game.

The people who do it regularly are the exact ones who have eagle eyes for it and will catch their opponents doing it, even if inadvertent.

I see it as cheating and it never occurs to me to do it intentionally, as a result, I'm not as diligent as I should be in watching out for and catching my opponents doing it. Even though I intellectually know it isn't true, subconsciously I expect people to play with the same moral code I have so I don't take the threat as seriously as I should.

That's the same mechanism at work here. People from third world countries, especially corrupt third world countries, especially *tribal*, corrupt, third world countries see lying and cheating and scamming as just "part of the game".

We don't see it that way so when they offer some cockamamie story about how they lost their birth certificate and the courthouse burned down and all the records were lost, but here's a virtually illegible photocopy of an affidavit from the doctor who delivered me as a baby but has been dead for 30 years so I can't get a new one........

Question is, why was he placed where he was, and what kind of damage did he do?

I object vehemently to this comment! Their “supporting documentation” was “tragically destroyed” during the “attack from government gorilla’s” late at night when their house was “burned to the ground” just prior from their successful “escape” to America!

I believe it was Shakespeare that famously said “an excuse by any other name, is still an excuse!”

For 26 years I dealt with some of the most pathological criminals you can imagine! THEY ALWAYS HAVE A HEART BREAKING LIST/LISTS OF JUSTIFICATIONS…

It's only the tip of the iceberg.

It's the updated version of 'Catch Me If You Can', but I don't think Leonardo DeCaprio can star in this remake.

You forgot to mention he is a Prince in his home country and needs to hide $30 million dollars.

I believe it is more a case of "Look what boxes we can check if we hire him" and: "he said he would get us the paperwork lets move forward" and " We don't want to be viewed as racist". I am certain there was some Federal Grant money involved. Just another box to check.
