A musical pun I couldn't resist

From Stephan Pastis yesterday.  Click the image to be taken to a larger view at the "Pearls Before Swine" Web page.

That was a groaner - but very funny, too!  To honor the cartoonist and his inspiration, here's the original piece as played at the "Concert for George", held to honor the composer after his death.

Warm memories to go with the smile.

South Australia police have a new doggie task force

Do note the acronym made up from the first letters of the words in the new task force name, and pronounce it as a single word . . .

Grooooaaaaannn!

I like puns, and I've been guilty of more than my fair share of them:  but I have to admit, that one's a groaner!

For musical firearms enthusiasts with a lot of money

It may be heretical of me to say so, but I've never particularly liked Elvis Presley's songs.  They just don't appeal to me.  Nevertheless, he's probably among the top five iconic American singers of the past century, and looks set fair to remain at that pinnacle long after I'm dead.

It seems he was also a firearms enthusiast.  Two of his engraved, inlaid revolvers were auctioned in 2017.  Click either image for a larger view.

There's more at the link.

I've no idea what price they'd fetch today, but I'd be surprised if it's less than six figures apiece.  That German engraving job is world-class by any standards, and the gold inlay is spectacular.

Er ... since Elvis was a musician, dare I suggest that his revolvers would be a note-worthy acquisition?  They'd lend tone to any collection!

Another great cartoon from Stephan Pastis.  Click the image to see a larger version at the "Pearls Before Swine" Web page.

Puns, prey, food and books.  What's not to like?

GRRROOOOAAAANNN!!!

Cartoonist Stephan Pastis comes up with some truly groan-worthy puns from time to time.  (As an inveterate punster myself, I entirely approve.)  Yesterday he came up with one of his best.  Click the image to be taken to a larger version at the "Pearls Before Swine" Web page.

That's terrible!  In fact, it's so terrible I wish I'd thought of it myself . . .

I giggled

I'm sorry, but I just like puns.  That's one of the reasons I'm so fond of Stephan Pastis' comic strip "Pearls Before Swine".  Here's yesterday's edition.  (Click the image to be taken to a larger version at the strip's Web page.)

I've no idea how many Star Wars puns are out there, but they've had almost half a century to accumulate.  Has anyone ever put together a collection of them?

Heh

In the light of my earlier post this morning about education, this cartoon tickled my funny-bone.  Click the image to be taken to a larger version at the "Pearls Before Swine" Web page.

I don't know where Stephan Pastis got his gifts of inspired punnery and barbed wit, but IMHO he's one of the best cartoonists out there today.  I visit "Pearls Before Swine" every day for a dose of laughter.

Pun of the week

From Stephan Pastis, who likes puns almost as much as I do.  Click the image for a larger view at the "Pearls Before Swine" comic strip Web page.

Who can resist a good doggie pun?  There are plenty more at the link.  Enjoy!

It's all in the vocabulary

From Pearls Before Swine yesterday.  Click the image to go to a larger view at the comic's Web site.

As far as I know, Stephan Pastis is the only cartoonist who regularly incorporates puns into his comics.  He's halfway there.  Now, if we could just get him to use limericks as well . . .

If you thought my puns were bad . . .

. . . you really need to follow Stephan Pastis' comic strip Pearls Before Swine.  He regularly inserts very punny cartoons, usually ending with Rat threatening or killing him for his abuse of the language.  Here's yesterday's effort.  (Click the image for a larger view at the comic's Web site.)

That had me laughing out loud.  Puns and limericks - among the higher forms of humor . . .

Canny crustaceans?

I had to smile at this headline and article.  For the benefit of US readers, what we refer to as "shrimp" are usually called "prawns" in the UK.

Prawns with shy personalities do better in the battle for survival

Prawns have personalities and cautious crustaceans do better in the battle for food, new research suggests.

Scientists studied rockpool prawns and found some were consistently shy, while others were bolder.

But this bravery may come at a cost - as the risk-takers tended to do worse than other prawns when competing for food.

There's more at the link.

Must be because the cautious ones don't want to share their food.  They're the opposite of generous - they're shellfish.
