Talk about entitlement!

Courtesy of Midwest Chick, here's a social media post highlighting just how entitled to free handouts many people think they are in this benighted country.

There's a brief video clip at the link, showing his feelings - no, his absolute conviction - of entitlement.  I urge you to click over there and watch it for yourself.

EBT funds - i.e. the so-called "food stamp" program - are due to run out in November, thanks to the current government shutdown preventing Congress from reauthorizing that expenditure.  There are millions of Americans who are angry, upset, even panic-stricken at the thought of losing them.

My first reaction is that the bloated mess that such food assistance has become is long overdue to be cut back to essentials only - no sodas, no pizza, no lobster tails, no chips-and-dip, just basic supplies of regular, nutritious food that will provide an adequate daily diet for a typical family.  If that gores the ox of the suppliers of soda and sweets, so be it.  Why should my taxpayer dollars support such waste?

My second reaction is that food stamps were intended (back when they were first thought of) to be a temporary means of assistance to families who found themselves suddenly without sufficient income to make it on their own.  They were never intended to become a multi-year freebie handout to people who would never work hard enough to restore their family finances sufficiently to get off food stamps!  Sadly, that's what they've become in all too many cases.  I called an acquaintance yesterday who works in the social services department of a major municipality, and asked her what proportion of EBT recipients there had been getting those benefits for longer than a year.  She reckoned that more than half of the cases in her city had been getting those benefits for longer than five years.  So much for temporary assistance!

I'm not heartless or uncharitable, but it seems to me that requiring 20-odd hours of work per week to qualify for EBT/food stamps is hardly unreasonable.  Any reasonably able-bodied adult should be able to contribute that to his/her support.  To the man refusing to do so - sucks to be your kids, I guess, because they're going to go hungry thanks to your fecklessness and laziness (not to mention your amazing sense of entitlement and superiority).  Buddy, this taxpayer does not work for you, and isn't willing to tolerate your attitude any longer.

I'm sure my readers can cite examples of their own where they've seen this sort of entitled attitude in action.  Let us know about them in Comments.

After 3 (4?) generations on welfare (EBT), it has become a RIGHT to receive it and you owe it to them. I saw a clip yesterday were a male was saying that if the EBT was cut off for him, he'd start stealing what he needed. The idea of work was not even considered.
Apparently the EBT he received from the Gov't that was stolen from the taxpayers (try not paying and see what happens) was OK by him, since it was the Gov't that was stealing.

'Wanna bet that the "shutdown" ends "just in time" to save their welfare and EBT? 'Can't have the natives going "mostly peaceful" again, now can we?...

'Ever notice how that other vote-buying scam, Social Security, is always on the chopping block but Welfare NEVER is?...

He'd also get paid for the 20hrs. So it's not like he works just to get $720.

I was born poor White in CA in the late 50s last by 6 years. We all worked from 4 years old. When we graduated HS our parents showed us the door to find life.

I got a job with the phone company in South Central Los Angeles to live and pay for college in the 70s for 4 years. The area was Black Slums, highly dangerous, most on welfare (now EBT) & food stamps (now SNAP) but they lived better then I grew up. These people complaining do not want to change, they want free gifts, while they still have crime and drugs. The Dem politicos run the areas and do not want change but do not live in the areas.

I wonder if, possibly, these videos were designed for outrage clicks. 'Cuz they're sure getting them.

I saw a video of a guy warning everyone not to sell their snap/ebt benefits because they may need them to actually buy food next month. So, he is probably not worried so much about his kids not getting food but himself not being able to scam to get cash.

And I see “we accept ebt” signs everywhere even at clothes stores.

Any pay will cause the food stamp amount to go down.

EBT should be limited to the user geographical area, you got money for vacation, you got money to spend on food at home.

This is why Private charity is good, but Public charity is bad.

If you are handing your money to people in need (or even through your church), both the people getting and receiving the charity understand it's coming from some individual's pocket to support them (and yes, it can come with strings attached, you don't like those strings, give your own money without it)

but when the money comes from 'the government', the personal connection is lost and people quickly forget that it comes out of someone's pocket and start to feel entitled to it.

Food Banks exist, and (unless the government gets in the way to prevent it) Resturants can give out food that they would otherwise throw out at the end of the day.

but too many people are too picky about what they eat.

Only in the US is the biggest health risk for poor people getting too fat.

From your lips to the ears of God, Pete.

I like electricity and the freedom to go shopping without serious threats to me and mine.

But I DO Wonder if the real powers that be (those that BUY Politicians) might want America in more troubles.

Something about the Heglin Dialectic.

Thesis (Problem): A problem is introduced or created. This could be a crisis, conflict, or any situation that generates concern among the public.
Antithesis (Reaction): The public reacts to the problem, often with fear, panic, or a demand for action. This reaction is crucial as it sets the stage for the next step.
Synthesis (Solution): A solution is presented, which is often a response to the public's demand for action. This solution may involve changes or measures that would not have been accepted under normal circumstances.

NAHHH, NEVER HAPPEN... Snickering looking at 911 and the "Patriot Act" (SPIT) that has moved us so far along into a surveillance society AND COVID that got so many of us to surrender ANYTHING to "Protect US from COVID".

Not to mention the "little Problem" of a failing US Dollar and economic issues (see massive rise of Gold for example as countries buy it with US Dollars to get rid of it).

Was used to be a popular "distraction" but the current US Militarty seems barely able to blast unarmed "drug boats" out of the water after Round 2 of the US Navy vs the Hothi's went 0-2 Hothi's. BTW the Hothi's AND Iran's GDP is a tiny fraction of the GDP of the state of Maryland so...

I used to know someone who worked for the local authority (this is in Britain but I suspect the same attitudes apply). She told the story of a young woman who came to them for emergency assistance. Because she had a baby (and the father was nowhere to be seen) my friend sorted her out some money for food etc.. A little later the woman was back having apparently spent it on beer and cigarettes, so my friend scratched around and found her some more money from some other budget.

Friend's comment was about how stupid this woman was, and it was only when I pointed out to her the alternative explanation of immorality that she seemed to notice her client had taken enough for luxuries as well as necessities. She genuinely had not thought of that.

The same friend was horrified that the security service were monitoring people released from Guantanamo Bay, as though "Guantanamo Bad" proved, by itself, that they were innocent of any wrongdoing. The leftist mind is a truly weird place, and leftists are the "authority figures" benefit recipients generally deal with.

EBT and SNAP should be restricted to the same foods as WIC.

I have a news bulleting for you. Paying for sugary, highly processed, unhealthy food is exactly what food stamps are for. That process is in place to kill off the worthless part of the population and they are falling for it. Always look to outcomes to understand motives.

A "reasonably able-bodied adult" should get no welfare at all, ever. Welfare should be temporary help for people who have broken their leg and can't work.

" ... food assistance ... is long overdue to be cut back ..."
Not just that, but free housing, free cell phones, free health insurance, etc., etc.
It all needs to be reviewed and purged.

3 Months and EBT is shut off. No if ands or buts. And you cannot draw EBT for 5 years after the 3 month shut off. Fuck them.

When Iwas a child, before food stamps and EBT. one had to go to a government run food distribution point. There one received flour, tins of 'mystery meat, tins of peanut butter, powered milk. Then some social justice warriors (SJWs) thought commodity food was demeaning and unappealing. So along came food stamps. Once again after a ten to fifteen year period, the SJWs deemed food stamps too demeaning and expensive so EBTs were introduced for the modern era. So here we are, three generations have eaten on someone else's ticket and think it should continue or 'There'll be BIG trouble."

At a really bad time in my life I had to use EBT. Two people, one recovering from major surgery with high costs associated and permanently disabled, both out of work, and we got, between us, $42 a month for 6 months. It covered milk and some other things, but we never got the hundreds and hundreds that these creatures get.

We were in such dire circumstances that the loss of the money was a crippling blow. Fortunately things got remarkably better just a few months later so no harm, no foul.

Same thing when I lost my house. Housing assistance was only for 'them' and not for poor white people in trouble.

Pretty ineffective policy if that were the genuine motivation. They breed a whole lot faster than they die off.

An inordinate % of those on 'EBT' assistance are visibly obese, and always have multiple illegitimate offspring. I observed this firsthand years ago when helping cook/serve a meal (via our church at the time) at a taxpayer-funded 'community home.' At that same time we couldn't afford the second child we desperately wanted. Saw the same thing when delivering Thanksgiving meal components (and I had already donated quite a bit of that food) to the 'disadvantaged.'

I ceased giving to any official charity years ago. We give to what is now our local church (where I know the money is going to the local rural community) and I pay for multiple Thanksgiving meals through our tiny town's sole grocery store. Again, I know the food is going to local heritage Americans who genuinely need it.

As for the EBT crowd? Let them 'eat' their 'weaves' and purple drank. Not my people, not my problem.

Some decades ago, we lived in a poor neighborhood in Syracuse, NY. Many of the folks were white welfare recipients. We knew a young girl in her early teens that was trying to do well in school. Unfortunately her parents were discouraging her, because "when you grow up you'll be on welfare just like us". Frankly, I believe they either couldn't help her with her homework, or just didn't want to. I sometimes wonder whatever happened to her. The children are trained by their parents to expect the handouts.
