That's the question posed by Tucker Carlson. It's a good one. Bold, underlined text is my emphasis.
Canada canceled democracy last night. And the remarkable thing is no one in this country seemed to notice that it happened. There was no outcry from our political class, as their friend Justin Trudeau declared martial law in response to an entirely peaceful protest from his country's working class.
Our news media barely noted that it happened. Weirdest of all, the State Department, which exists these days to denounce such attackers of democracy as Hungary and Poland, didn't say a single word as democracy in Canada ended. That's pretty weird, if you think about it.
. . .
What happens [in Canada] matters here. If nothing else, it's a preview of what will likely happen in the United States. So with that in mind, you should know that Justin Trudeau is no longer the prime minister of Canada. Justin Trudeau is Canada's maximum leader, its strongman, its potentate. Justin Trudeau is the dictator of Canada. If you think that's an overstatement, try to think of another way to describe what Justin Trudeau is now doing.
For the first time in Canada's history, Trudeau has invoked what's known as the Emergencies Act, but the protests he is facing hardly qualify as an emergency. But suddenly, Justin Trudeau has the power to crush all political opposition to his rule, and that's exactly what he's doing. Trudeau has ended free speech in Canada. He's banned free assembly. Trudeau's government has shut down political rallies and arrested his political critics without probable cause. Trudeau has instituted internal passports, that restrict travel within Canada, to the politically obedient. Canadians are no longer allowed to leave their own country unless they obey Justin Trudeau. And if they don't obey, they could be bankrupted and destroyed. He now has the power to do that. Trudeau has claimed the power to freeze the financial assets of any Canadian who resists him. No court order is required to do this, he just decides.
Justin Trudeau can even dictate what you do for a living and how you do it. Today, Trudeau threatened to arrest tow truck drivers who refused to tow the trucks of protesters. Is this really about stopping the spread of coronavirus? No one in Canada is even pretending that it is anymore. Trudeau himself didn't mention the risk of COVID a single time yesterday. He's not worried about unvaccinated truckers spreading a virus. Trudeau is worried about Canadians resisting his rule.
. . .
In a dictatorship, the only real crime is opposing the regime. So how did all this happen so quickly in a country as nice and moderate as Canada? Well it happened the way that it always happened. It happened with maximum aggression and limited popular support. Justin Trudeau won reelection last year with less than a third of the national vote. In fact, he finished the election behind his main competitor, the Conservative Party. Thanks to quirks in the parliamentary system, Trudeau took power anyway, and he immediately began to crack down on anyone who opposed him. Trudeau had relatively few supporters, but they turned out to be the right supporters. They were the people with power.
. . .
Leaders like Biden and Trudeau avoid the usual tells. They don't use armies to invade other countries, for example. Instead, they promote color revolutions and control foreign governments from afar. That's exactly what they did in Ukraine, which became a far more repressive place once Joe Biden began running it, and he does run Ukraine. Make no mistake. That's what they do. This new class of dictators seizes power incrementally, through the bureaucracy. They never raise their voices. They don't wave their arms. They smile and they tell you they're protecting democracy and public health. They praise diversity, even as they demand conformity. They're entirely passive-aggressive. But they're no less dangerous. One morning you wake up and they've canceled your job and seized your bank account for the crime of disagreeing with them. This is the architecture of tyranny, and it's not just happening in Canada. It's happening here in the United States. It will be used against us. Bet on it.
There's more at the link.
I entirely agree with Mr. Carlson. I note that Trudeau didn't act until after he'd first consulted with President Biden, who doubtless urged him to crack down precisely as he did. I'm sure the President would love to do the same, and more, to those who oppose him in this country.
Canada is now at an existential point in its history. Will its people meekly accept the domination of a tyrannical minority? Or will they continue to resist, and oppose oppression, and eventually triumph? I hope and pray that the "trucker rebellion" will continue, and be victorious. If it isn't, the alternative is, as George Orwell warned us:
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face—for ever."
The boot may be disguised with layers of laws and regulations and sweet talk, but it'll still be a boot.
Winston Churchill understood this well. Here are several quotations in which he made the alternatives starkly clear.
"A state of society where men may not speak their minds cannot long endure."
"Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.""One ought never to turn one’s back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Never run away from anything. Never!""If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.""Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb."
These are the choices facing Canadians right now, this very day. They're also the choices facing us in the United States. How we respond will determine whether the wisdom shown by our Founding Fathers will endure, or be thrown on the garbage heap of history.
Tucker Carlson is right. If we do not act, if we do not resist, Canadian-style tyranny will, indeed, come to America. What are you, personally, prepared to do about that? Don't answer here - but think about it, and make your choice, then make your plans, because resistance will be necessary. The forces of "woke" tyranny won't allow us to resist without trying to crush us.

I think many tried this over the last two years here - look at how politicians attempted to shut down protests and assemblies they didn't like because of CVD. Fortunately, those attempts faced enough pushback they failed.
Will they keep trying to change the country? Sure - but I doubt they'll be as blatant or as fast as Canada.
The US has much more robust rights protections than Canada.
And don't forget that even in Canada, Parliament has to approve his use of this legislation - and even if they do, he can only use it for a limited number of days.
Hey Peter;
Old Joe will try it right after the Midterms before the new Congress is sworn in, during the "gray period", would be the time for him to invoke something like that when the traditional likes are blurred.
Trudeau has already said he has no intention of submitting this to parliament for approval.
So, the question is, what will parliament do if he doesn't?
"The US has much more robust rights protections than Canada."
That and $6 will get you coffee at Starbucks.
The only rights you have are the rights you demand to be observed and delivered; that means you will have to demand observance and delivery and enforce that action with actions of your own.
That may mean verbal and written demands (which you may be assured will receive no recognition or support from the media); it may mean legal action, involving expensive attorneys and the slow grind through the court system; it may mean direct, and potentially kinetic, involvement on your part and other like-minded individuals.
Without the offenders facing a price to pay at the end of the day - a price they consider too extreme to pay - your "rights" will remain ephemeral because there will be no incentive for the offenders to cease abridging those "rights."
That price may be losing their position at the next election; it may be public humiliation; it may be financial hardship levied by court actions; it may be shunning by their fellow travelers; or, it may be the threat of physical action up to and including death.
"My rights are guaranteed by the Constitution" is a hollow cry; the Constitution does not guarantee rights, it affirms their existence as granted by a higher power than government. Any "guarantee" to human deliverance of those rights must come from you.
Act and plan accordingly.
My fellow boomers will do nothing. 2 years for me have proven that. Talk but no action. Still watching football, watching TV, shopping with their enemies, getting vaxxed with something that has never worked, wearing masks just as they are told to do. Most of them are so sickly it no longer matters.
Don’t fool yourselves; Dems are already taking notes.
I don't think Trudeau has any intention of submitting the emergency power use to parliament. I believe he is using the democrat's playbook of illegally enacting its use, and waiting until the courts shut it down, if they will. By the time it is acted upon by the courts, they will have most likely accomplished what they wanted to with it.
Innaresting.
I just tried to leave a highly cynical comment.
Blogger gave me a nonspecific error page (and of course I hadn't saved my text before hitting Publish).
Is this a Clue of some sort?
Imagine a bullet flying through a tyrant's head, forever.
Oh, and "They're gonna do this here!" ??
Stop teasing us.
Open the ball already, and let's see who calls the tune.
It's already here. Patriot Act, Civil Rights Act...you name it; it's already on the books.
A lot of hyperbole from Tucker. Trudeau MAY want that type of power but he doesn't have it yet. Yes he has to submit his invocation of the Emergencies Act to the House of Commons AND Senate for debate. He has seven days to do this. If it's not submitted within that time frame it's considered null and void.
Now it HAS to be passed by a majority vote in the HoC AND the senate and remains in effect for 30 days, and must be resubmitted for continuation after that. That being said, a lot can be done in seven (now five) days. One thing is that banks can freeze suspicious funds without a court order and already have.
At the moment, a lot of people are watching and waiting to see what happens. Anger is brewing, and a lot of people may wake up and rediscover our warrior roots.
And now the follow up: the five biggest banks in Canada have had exponentially rising access outages reported in the past few hours. Some ATMs are still allowing cash to be pulled out but are going empty.
Gee, it's almost like you shouldn't take draconian steps to tank people's faith in your sovereign money supply.
Scott M.: What, a bank run? People trying to get their money out of the banks before the Government arbitrarily confiscates it?
Who'd a' thunk it?
(This was pretty much the first thing my wife thought of when she heard about the business of freezing bank accounts. But, then, she majored in business, not in politics / partying / blackface or whatever it is that the Cloud Minders study.)
U.S. is much better armed and much less tolerant of being pushed.
Non-compliance is action.
Re- How long Until.....
About 6-12 Months, perhaps much sooner if a window of opportunity is seen to open by our Promethean Overlords. They know that the sheep are beginning to look up, and that their time to impose Global Tyranny grows short.
Going to be an interesting few years. I know that people will survive. I know that much of the U.S. infrastructure will survive, because it is not that kind of war. But, I doubt very much that the U.S. as we now know it will survive in it's present form. Sure, the land mass and most of the cities will persevere but as for the rest, Gone. All Gone.
Many people who voted for chains because they knew that "The Other" (who they hated) would be wearing them, will be very surprised when they find themselves wearing those same chains.
They will be even more surprised to discover that the leaders who sold them down the river, despised them, as much as they despised the 'Deplorables'.
