A close encounter with whales

An Australian father and his daughter were out on a boat last month when they were approached by a pair of humpback whales off the coast of Fraser Island in Queensland, northeastern Australia.  Here's what happened.

Amazing creatures, aren't they?  (The whales, I mean!)

Whale!

Man, I'd love that.

*sticks head in the water and moans*

"Ogre, you do not speak whale!"

Contact with a sentient being and all she can do is worry that it is going to flip the boat over? Did she just finish watching the movie "Mobey Dick"?

I, too, would probably have my head in the water doing whalesong imitations - until one of the responded. I'd need to come up to change my pants if that happened.

And no, you would never hear the end of that.

stay safe.

Kid needs some valium or something - she was too busy panicking to appreciate the experience - when I was her age, {even today! ;-) } you'd have to tie me to the mainmast to keep me from jumping in to swim with the whales .............. ;-)

How scary for her. She has a healthy respect of the ocean, or she would not be so overwhelmed. Wait until she starts to come down from her adrenalin high. :)

damaging encounters with whales is not uncommon, and might be a factor in some missing boat reports.
