After I put up Peter Warlock's carol 'Bethlehem Down' yesterday, I had a few e-mails from readers asking for more information about the composer. It seems he's not very well known in the USA compared to some other classical composers. You can read more about his rather strange, disjointed and all too short life at Wikipedia. While you do that, here's one of his best-known short pieces for string orchestra, the Capriol Suite. It's one of my favorites. This performance is by the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. Turn up the volume and enjoy!
And, just to prove that musical genius is very adaptable, here's a transcription of the Capriol Suite for four classical guitars, performed by the excellent Los Angeles Guitar Quartet at the Hamburg Guitar Festival in 2011.
Lovely!
Peter
