Doofus Of The Day #989

Today's award goes to an idiot in Wolverhampton, England.  In many ways, he and his friends define doofidity.  A tip o' the hat to reader Philip E. for sending me the link.

Five firefighters spent an hour working to release a YouTube prankster who cemented his head inside a microwave.

The 22-year-old and a group of friends mixed seven bags of Polyfilla [similar to US spackling paste] before they poured it around his head, which was protected by a plastic bag inside the appliance.

Their intention was to use the microwave as a mould, and by the time emergency services were at 1.49pm on Wednesday to the garage of a house in Fordhouses, Wolverhampton, the group had already been trying to free him for 90 minutes.

The friends had managed to feed an air tube into the man's head to help him breathe.

There's more at the link, including photographs of the removal process.

I don't have much sympathy for this idiot's discomfort.  I probably wouldn't have had much sympathy if he'd been seriously injured, or even killed, by his own stupidity.  However, if anyone else needed firefighter assistance for real (i.e. in a fire), and couldn't get it because the firefighters were tied up trying to free this doofus from the consequences of his own actions . . . I think a case could be made for throwing him, microwave and all, into the next fire that comes along.

Why do people like this never think of the danger their actions may cause to others, directly or indirectly?

Because for them there /are/ no others. There's stuff that enhances their identity and stuff that degrades it; but by and large everything in the world, static or mobile, is just scenery.

What's the difference between "doofidity" and "doofusness"?
Reminds me of the medical axiom, "Never underestimate what people will try to put in the various orifices of their body!" Lots of doofuses (doofi?) in those stories as well...

People like this are evidence that modern society has effectively nullified Darwinian selection. People routinely engage in conduct that a century ago would have removed them permanently from the gene pool. Now they are rescued and put back together...at GREAT EXPENSE...by modern technology and medicine. Thus they survive to pass along their genetic deficiencies. Watch this clip and you will see that while intended as comedy this is actually akin to prophecy. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XZde5VDAA8U

"...Their intention was to use the microwave as a mould..."

That - right there, alone - is pure-D, industrial-grade, borderline-insanity...

Then - add-in that the clear-cut intent (to the severely-limited extent that such can be stated to be present...) - is/was to utilize the living, (sometimes-)breathing, entire.head! (presumably containing...some sort of semi-functioning brain) of the central participant in this...behavior - as the "positive form" being molded...

Well -

I do hope that either internally-consumed alcohol or some admixture of other heavy-duty intoxicants were also involved, here - it would be nearly too much to bear, if this little "enterprise" were to have been undertaken minus strong "stimulation"...

When stuff like this happens, the fire dept should send the doofus a bill.

This is the fail in that story:

"Five firefighters spent an hour working to release a YouTube prankster who cemented his head inside a microwave."

Which leads inevitably to the obvious question for the ages:
For Pete's sake, WHY?!?

He's clearly in no imminent danger; let him work it out himself.
As reference, note the dearth of any cat skeletons in trees for going on six millennia of recorded human history.

Just walk away.

Because it is ALWAYS about "me", never, ever, about "others".
me, me, me, ME!!!
