Headline of the day

I had to do a double-take when I read this headline over at Diogenes' Middle Finger:

Standing Up to Pee Gives Boys an Unfair Advantage in Physics

I mean . . . WTF???

Click over there to read the article (and follow the links).  It's actually a serious claim, although whether or not it'll hold up to pee-er review, I don't know . . .

This planet is doomed. How can I get a ticket off?

It also gives them an unfair advantage in not falling into a lidless toilet, or ever sitting on a wet toilet seat, and also explains why they pick up cursive writing much faster than girls do. Since you mentioned it...

some may not grasp this at first.

Girls can also stand up to pee.

It gives them an advantage in fluid mechanics, nozzle design and the idea that just because you CAN do something does not mean it is a good idea.

In my experience, boys mostly learn through processes to understand the mechanics of what math is trying to accomplish. Girls mostly learn through memorization. They can learn the math, but rarely learn when to apply apply it or why. That's why boys grow up to be engineers and technicians and girls grow up to be accountants. Yes I've known a few female engineers in my career, but they are the exceptions to the rule.

How is the answer to this simple quandry not obvious to one and all; both from the esteemed professariat describing the "problem", and to you all here, my friends...

Teach young girls to pee standing up from birth.

Should they manage to shape spray to stream, share the common boyish wisdom of Egon's warning to never "Cross the Streams".

I've heard that paper was a private joke amongst the professors, and was never intended to be made public.

Unfortunately, it was leaked.
