Quote of the day

From the Adaptive Curmudgeon, speaking about county fairs:

Horse people (mostly kids I think) have a whole lot of gear per horse. Also, it’s flashy enough to suit Liberace. There must be an innate urge to outfit a horse with the equivalent of chrome mudflaps and ground effects lighting.

Having been to more than a few county fairs in Louisiana and one in Tennessee, I can only wince in optically agonized agreement . . .

Horses like bling. They prance around drawing attention to themselves.

It begins with "child beauty contests" where young girls are made up, dressed up (bling-ized) at a huge cost, paraded around on a stage and photographed simply to sate the mother's twisted ego.

The Western kids parents use the rodeo and expensive gear for the same reason.

Horses are innocent bystanders in the idiotic human need for "Appearing as the top dude".

Hey, now, all that silver on my tack makes it easier to find the horse after he tosses me off and disappears up the trail headed for parts unknown.

The local Christmas parade is at night and you need to wear sunglasses for all the LED lights on the equines and riders.
