I got to thinking over the past few days about the passage of time, days, weeks, months, years, even decades. It was prompted by news of the death of an old comrade in arms, with whom I lost touch after I moved to the USA in the 1990's. Anyway, that started me thinking about songs dealing with the passage of time. There must be thousands of them out there; it's a common theme in love songs, country ballads, and a host of other genres.
Here, in no particular order, are a few of the songs I remember about time passing. Without planning it that way, they all date from the 1950's and 1960's. First, from Simon and Garfunkel, "April Come She Will".
Next, Sandy Denny and the Strawbs with "Who Knows Where The Time Goes".
From Magna Carta, here's a lovely folk-style tune, "Time For The Leaving".
With tongue firmly in cheek, here's Flanders and Swann with "A Song Of The Weather".
And finally, here's a very early Jethro Tull song, "We Used To Know". If the chords seem familiar, there's a little-known reason for that, as I'll explain in a moment.
Here's a 1996 live recording of that piece, which Ian Anderson opens by explaining how and why the Eagles' hit "Hotel California" sounds rather like "We Used To Know".
There you have it: five songs, picked at random, about the passage of time. What are your favorites on that subject? Let us know in Comments, and provide a link to a version of the song if you can find one.

Time In A Bottle by Jim Croce is one of my favorites.
Check out "Life Gets Teejus, Don't It?" by Doc Watson.
Never realized that of Hotel, but yes. A fan of both groups, I just started my playlist of 7 Jethro Tull albums thanks to you. Of course Aqualung is alphabetically the first in the list. I give another 10 minutes before the wife requests I put headphones on. Thank God for wireless!!! :-)
Flanders and Swann gave us great inspiration for campfire songs -- "Mud ,Mud Glorious Mud" and many more. Very clever duo.
My pick too. Also Time Passages and Nostradamus by All Stewart.
Different generation, I was in during the 90's... So this one in particular for me: https://youtu.be/OjRryUK_1Qw?si=5OMNUuJwPSWRHqjt

“Homeward Bound” 2014 by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, male chorus.
Maybe not precisely on point but it seems valid to me (and hopefully others here).
Your opening sentence put me in mind of a great speech by our former VP on the passage of time. Thanks for that - not!
I'm so ashamed. I can't believe I forgot Pink Floyd!

I still twitch when I hear the opening to that song. I had a job interview I Could. Not. Miss. So I set up like 500 watts of stereo amp to an alarm clock with Time queued. I woke up so hard blood shot out of my nose. I got the job despite the nervous tick.
