Cowardice and betrayal of trust in Broward County

By now, I'm sure most of my readers are aware that four Broward County deputy sheriffs - including the school security officer - cowered outside the Parkwood school buildings and refused to go in to confront the shooter as he was murdering 17 of his former classmates.  (I won't name him.  He doesn't deserve to be remembered as a human being.  Let his name be forgotten.)

When it comes to the deputies' conduct, I don't think anyone has said it better than my friend and comrade Lawdog.

I'll go so far as to say that there is no dishonour in turning in your badge after the Academy if you realize that you can't walk into an on-going gunfight and shoot the critter pulling the trigger in the face until he changes shape or catches fire -- as long as you do it before the actual bullets start going "bang".

If you come to me -- or your boss -- on a quiet afternoon and say, "I've thought about it, and I don't think I can do the needful to save kids" then all honour to you, and I wish you peace and happiness in another profession.

But if you wait until the bangs and the stinks and the screams are in progress to decide that you just can't do it ... you, sir, are a useless oath-breaking bucket of squid chum, who is parasitising a position, a uniform, and a salary that could be held by someone who can do the needful.

And -- quite frankly -- if you wear a badge, and you hide behind a car while children under your protection are getting killed, you should have the common [deleted] decency to take your sidearm, find a quiet country road somewhere, and Do The Proper Thing.

There's more at the link.  Please go read the whole thing.  He says what needs to be said.

However, it's also emerged that Broward County policies in schools as a whole were so slewed towards covering up and/or ignoring actual crimes as to constitute malfeasance in office, not only on the part of those deputies concerned, but probably by the sheriff's department as a whole.

Broward County schools intentionally created polices from 2010 through 2016 that culminated in the 2018 mass school shooting in Parkland.  We know this with great specificity because five years ago we warned Broward County Florida school board members this could happen.

In 2012 and 2013 while doing research into the Trayvon Martin shooting we discovered an alarming set of school policies being enacted in Miami-Dade and Broward County Florida.  The policies were called “diversionary programs” and were essentially about stopping High School students from being arrested. Law enforcement was instructed to avoid arrests and defer criminal conduct to school administrators.

Students who engaged in violence, drug sales, robberies, burglaries, theft and other various crimes were intentionally kept out of the criminal justice system.  County administrators and School Superintendents told local and county law enforcement officers to stop arresting students.

Unfortunately, the school board mandated policies came into conflict with law and order. The problem of the conflicted policy -vs- legality worsened over time as the police excused much more than misdemeanor crimes.  Over time this culminated in police officers falsifying documents, hiding criminal activity, lying on official police reports and even hiding stolen merchandise police retrieved from high school students.

Again, more at the link.

Given that police were called to the shooter's home no less than 39 times before his massacre of his former classmates, yet did nothing, one must assume that those policies were being actively implemented, both in and out of school.

There's blood on the shooter's hands, sure;  but I think there's just as much blood on the hands of the Broward County Sheriff's Office, and on the Sheriff's, and on the hands of every deputy involved, either before or during the tragedy.  Will anything be done about it?  I hope so . . . but I doubt it.  Those involved have too much incentive to cover for each other, lest they endanger themselves.

But if you say "I want our Children protective by guns"
Why do these same people call you Evil?
It's not that they don't want anyone to have gun.
It's that they don't want you to have them.
Their self, their friends, their family and their guards (when guarding them, their friends, and family) are fine.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." - George Orwell - but he never lived in Broward County did he.

The Second Amendment the only part United States Constitution where someone other than one gets to say if it covers you.

There are more and more problems with the narrative cropping up. I am starting to think that the cruz kid is just a patsy and possibly did not kill anyone.
Who id'd him as the shooter? How do you shoot 17 kids, 3 adults, fire off 100 rounds, and wear full gear, then walk out casually?

How did he get in? Why was there a 27 minute error in the school tapes? Why did one of the student witnesses say she was talking to cruz while shooting was going on in different part of school?

Why did the son of a police officer go to school with a bullet proof vest? The sheriff was in tight with Hillary, and there is chatter he was in the running for FBI, the school superintendent was robert runcie (who TOTALLY looks like Frozone) from chicago and had connections to shady money stuff, and whose brother James Runcie was involved in 5 billion of Student Loan money being pissed away.

Why were the "emergency entertainers" interviewing each other during the drill? It all stinks.

One teacher supposed says there was a guy in full body armor doing the shooting, not the kid. Don't know if it's true.

I'm not sure I comletely agree with rsj (above) but he makes some points that need to be considered.

I doubt we'll ever learn the complete and absolute truth about this event and the precursors to it - doing so would destroy so many narratives, careers and lives that only so much truth can be revealed - but one has to raise the possibility that it's more than just stunning levels of incompetence, malfeasance, corruption and failure, that there was some degree of manipulation behind the scenes that had some enabling influence on the event. The political Left was just too well prepared to instantly jump on the "ban guns" bandwagon with their usual assortment of dupes and props.

Consipracy theories are cheaper than "a dime a dozen" and easily badied about, but if it is more than just huge amounts of incompetence, malfeasance, corruption and failure, is there another of these events being developed somewhere?

I can certainly believe that *one* guy was a coward, but four? Those of you with police/military experience can weigh in, but my presumption is that no one wants to look like a coward in front of other guys. So, four guys standing around sounds like orders to me.

There's lots of things leaking out (some covered by rsj), and here's another one: why are the survivors ("emergency entertainers") so well composed? They just saw people die in front of them, and they can hold it together on camera? Granted, people respond differently to tragedy, but there's usually signs that even the most composed witnesses are hanging on by a thread. But here? Nada. Of all the students in the school, why are the same four showing up again & again?

Not sure if I even own enough tin foil for all the hats I'll need.

This is why so many doubt gun control. Even if their wet dream came true and full confiscation was enacted, they apparently wouldn't bother with arresting those breaking the law.

@deplorable me -
It gets worse. The EMT responders were denied entry to treat the victims.

“We were asking to go in. Asking the scene commander to go in. Why are we all standing around? Why are we not having patients to treat? Why are we not going into the building and retrieving these kids? The response every time was law enforcement did not clear the scene and would not allow medical personnel to go in,” he added.

The EMS worker believes that if he and other medical responders were allowed to enter the building as soon as they arrived, they could have saved more lives. He explained he was willing to risk his life to save the lives of others and was very frustrated over the situation.

The more I read about this, the more the conspiracy theorists look sane.

There is a cancer in the Broward county sheriff's department. The sheriff has been chastised for his deputies inaction in the past. Remember the other active shooter mass murder that occurred in 2017 at the Ft Lauderdale Airport? That was on sheriff Israel's watch. He has 2 under his belt now. Ineptitude and hubris at it's highest level.

Charge the entire department. Every single deputy. All the management. Take all their guns and badges. Close the Sheriffs Dept. Tell the people it's all on them.
