Regular readers will know that I've always been opposed to calls to "Defund The Police" from the radical Left. I remain opposed to them, provided that the police are doing their job of upholding the law and stopping those who break it.
Then, there are police like this in Minnesota . . .
Why, precisely, are ratepayers there continuing to fund police who either can't or won't do their job? Why are they paying for police who do not "protect and serve", who do not ensure the safety of the public against wrongdoers and criminals?
Even worse, if citizens defend themselves against such lawbreakers, the police will most likely arrest them for "taking the law into their own hands". If the law is not in the hands of the police, then in whose hands is it?
This is a travesty in so many dimensions I can't think of them all. I'm very glad to live in a state where the police are much more likely to stop such conduct, and bring the smackdown to those who think they can get away with it. Sure, there are a few liberal districts around, but the average Texan is much more motivated to ensure the safety of his or her own community, whether or not the police assist.
Meanwhile, ratepayers in Minnesota might want to consider whether their police forces are worth funding . . .

Have you ever been to Minneapolis? It’s like dodo city. It was so white and safe and wholesome that they got all their survival instincts bred out. Then they tried to make pets out of ghetto trash from the Chicago projects because the Gundersons needed charity cases to coo over (and buy drugs from), and when that wasn’t enough they imported even worse vermin from Somalia. Now they wonder why their whiteopia isn’t nice anymore, as if bog-standard black behavior was something nobody had ever noticed before.
“Forget it Jake, it’s Minneapolis.”
They're getting what they voted for. I knew Minneapolis when it was a wonderful city.
Police should be authorized to use deadly force on people like this.
Trump may have won the White House but the left is still firmly in control of many locations. And a major leftist strategy is to order cops to ignore real criminals and go after the productive citizenry. And cops are more than happy to "just follow orders". So yes....law enforcement does need to be defunded....because they no longer serve society.
Also Minneapolis:
During the Covid lockdown, some citizens were sitting peacefully out on their porches in defiance of Governor Tim Walz's order to stay shut inside their homes. So the police drove said offenders indoors by shooting them with paintball guns.

In both cases, policy was set by politicians. Police were just "carrying out orders." Passively in the first case, actively in the second.
As I watch LEOs break the speed laws every day, when even on their way to work, I am led to believe that many consider themselves 'above the law'. I don't want to live without them, just consider what example they are setting for the average law-abiding citizen.
The very people who are bitching about the cars and the city commission are the ones who set the police department policy.
Most cities, even small ones, have the exact same policy of "No chase except for violent felonies." Stolen cars aren't violent felonies. Neither is driving like an asshat. So to get around said no-chase policy, often times the local PD will contact the local county sheriff's office.
Oh, sure, the business owners may not have voted for it, but the much-larger group of people where said street thugs come from did definitely vote for this.
And so did the Soros-funded city council and the Soros-funded head local prosecutor.
What is probable is that all o these business owners on that street all had "Black Lives Matter" and ACAB and anti-Trump/pro-Harris-Walz signs in their windows.
The Police chief made it very clear if there is not threat (via car jacking) to life or involvement of a gun they may not initiate a chase. Admittedly high speed pursuits can pose a risk to bystanders (e.g. one of the classic endings to a chase is for the criminal to run a red light and hit another vehicle).
However, with this policy the thieves are now just living up to being poorly socialized young jerks knowing it will have no consequences. Letting this continue just emboldens them. You either have to return to permitting pursuit at least with perhaps some limits/restrictions to reduce risk to the public, or you need perhaps teams in unmarked vehicles with someone to follow at a distance and someone to have stop sticks or similar to preposition and stop the car. Just letting it go on will only make things worse.
This falls into the Blue model of " poor oppressed we can't hold them to standards they can't achieve because of who they are and how they've lived". Until folks realize that the ONLY way to fix this is to hold everyone to the same standard i.e stealing cars is illegal and whether you are white, black, brown or purple with polka dots the theft of vehicles as well as misusing them in a dangerous fashion will NOT be tolerated and will be handled with jail time.
Yeah, beans covered it.
"People". ?? You spelled lowlife scum wrong.
Like most everyone else, why would cops work any harder than they need to? "No pursuit" and other similar restrictions simply make their job easier - and admittedly, safer. Some exceptions, but another welfare-by-govt-job organization with DEI thrown in. The Committee will return.
I assume from this Minneapolis police cars are not equipped with functioning radios, or if they are, the officers are unskilled n their use.
This. The police in places like this, and sadly a lot of places are just union shops whose daily mantra is to , " return home safe every day". The "protect and serve" or like rubric on their vehicles are just words.
Anarcho-tyranny
They have in all likelihood have been told to stand down or they will be written up, fined or suspended.
After the way Derek Chauvin got screwed for doing his job, I can't see why any Minneapolis cop would do a lick more than he absolutely had to.
The descent into 2nd-world status proceeds apace. This essay explains exactly how it happens. Bad Catitude hits it squarely on the head, IMHO.

Ridiculous!
This is not a failure of the militarized blue gang that is rarely held accountable.
This is a parental failure, pure and simple.
The collective thinking that it is a public servant job to raise an individual’s offspring is beyond absurd. Until this defect is corrected out society will continue to crumble at the base.
