Joe Dolio, writing at Tactical Wisdom, highlights a dilemma that occurred in Portland last weekend, but confronts police officers everywhere.
In Portland this Saturday, a prayer group held an event at a park and were immediately attacked by ANTIFA. ANTIFA pepper sprayed people without provocation, they stole several speakers and damaged them, and stole speaker stands. This actually constitutes armed robbery. The police did nothing.
The group left the park and were pursued throughout the downtown area by ANTIFA. There is video of one group walking down the street, and ANTIFA runs up & pepper sprays them without provocation, RIGHT NEXT TO A POLICE CAR. The prayer group fought back, then ran over to the police car to report the crime. The police never got out of their car.
When I posted about this, someone said “You don’t know what the city told them”. Correction: I don’t CARE what the city told them. That’s right. Because they swore an Oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States. That Constitution guarantees EVERYONE equal protection under the law. It also guarantees the Freedom to Exercise Religion. Inaction is not fulfilling that Oath.
. . .
Officers: Fulfill your Oath of Office or find another job. Make your choice. Neutrality isn’t a choice in this issue.
There's more at the link. The entire article is well worth reading, and I highly recommend it.
(You might want to note the tweets from an Antifa member, as reported here. The organization is clearly not interested in dialog or discussion of any kind - but then, extremists seldom are.)
Mr. Dolio highlights an issue that's going to come to the forefront in the weeks and months to come. The USA is now (illegitimately) in the grip of forces that aren't interested in fairness, even-handedness or ethical norms. They want it their way, and they want it now, and any resistance will be treated as selfishness at best, insurrection at worst. Wherever they control law enforcement agencies, be it national, regional or local, they'll try to make those agencies into their lapdogs and enforcers. The individual members of those agencies will have to make a choice: will they allow themselves to be treated like that, or will they stand up for what is right?
The Portland police have clearly made their choice - at least, the ones who remain employed there. The others, those who will stand up for what is right, have apparently already left, because they were conspicuous by their absence last weekend.
As fellow blogger Divemedic points out:
As I have said on the “Danger Zones” list, the entire Interstate 5 corridor from the Canadian border south to Eugene, Oregon can best be described as an area of active, low intensity combat and Portland itself is behind enemy lines and is considered enemy territory.
The biggest reason that such things are happening there is that the police have chosen to side with the left wing insurgents. They simply stand there and watch as these sorts of events unfold. There is a lesson there for those of you who think that the police in your area will risk losing their pensions in order to take a stand.
Again, more at the link.
Friends, before you trust the police to keep you safe and secure, make sure they actually will. If they won't, it's all on you - so be prepared to take care of yourself if necessary. Just be careful how you do it. Last year, I wrote two articles outlining the danger involved.
Nothing's changed - in fact, it's gotten worse since then. Consider those Portland cops who refused to defend the innocent last weekend. If the innocent had tried to defend themselves, would those same cops have allowed them to do so - or arrested them?
I think we all know the answer.
I'm very glad I'm not a cop in Portland at present. I don't know how I could live with my own conscience if I was.

Don't know if it's fair to say "from the Canadian border to...". I live closer to the Canadian border in that corridor and I think this is generally confined to the bigger cities. Many small and medium sized cities (I live in a smaller) are pushing back quite hard and the police are in agreement with the law abiding citizens. Haven't tested it yet though because Antifa doesn't come to our towns (apparently they aren't total idiots).
Police and other government agencies should take a hint from the private sector and move to personal & individual tax-free or tax-deferred retirement plans in lieu of public-sector pension plans.
It's very attractive to have your government-run pension plan assume all of the investment risk of funding your future financial stability, but it's also a financial tie that makes it virtually impossible to leave your public employment & start anew elsewhere (depending of course on where you might be on the "vest" scale and your personal financial status, etc.)
One reason that there is constant employee movement in private sector industries is that [most] employees' retirement funds are portable: that valuable time & money investment is not lost* if an employee chooses to leave his then-current employment.
* he may lose unvested employer contributions, but that's just another factor to be considered, among many others.
Frankly, I'm surprised nobody has shot the Pantifa protesters in self defense yet...
One guy displayed his firearm a few months ago when they blocked traffic and surrounded his car (ie were beating on it IIRC) in a threatening manner. He was promptly arrested although I haven't heard whether or not he was charged. I can guarantee that self defense in Portland will be prosecuted thoroughly. That's why my buddy and I don't go into the city anymore when I visit him down there, even though I can legally carry in Oregon.
Colo:
Agreed. I am a high school teacher and am reluctant to move to another state because I don't know if I have enough time to retirement to get anything out of the years in the new state. My pension here is vested so I get it no matter what, but it will get bigger if I stick around. Still researching but it could be a pretty big hit. Thankfully I am in small town well out of the way of the Portland-Seattle corridor but Washington state is going to hell in a handbasket at full speed. Am starting to see signs of pushback in WA, don't know about Oregon.
Well, next come the freikorps, I expect.
If I lived in Portland, I would be shooting the police on sight. Between the eyes.
Pick a side, pay the price.
It's not like the citizens would miss cops like those.
And I mean "miss" in all senses of that phrase.
This makes me very angry, but I must recall that the wrath of man does not accomplish the righteousness of God, that God is not mocked, and that ultimately, the antifa are not the Enemy, only slaves and pawns of the Enemy.
Psalm 42:
Longing for God and His Help in Distress
To the leader. A Maskil of the Korahites.
1 As a deer longs for flowing streams,
so my soul longs for you, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and behold
the face of God?
3 My tears have been my food
day and night,
while people say to me continually,
‘Where is your God?’
4 These things I remember,
as I pour out my soul:
how I went with the throng,
and led them in procession to the house of God,
with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving,
a multitude keeping festival.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my help 6 and my God.
My soul is cast down within me;
therefore I remember you
from the land of Jordan and of Hermon,
from Mount Mizar.
7 Deep calls to deep
at the thunder of your cataracts;
all your waves and your billows
have gone over me.
8 By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life.
9 I say to God, my rock,
‘Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I walk about mournfully
because the enemy oppresses me?’
10 As with a deadly wound in my body,
my adversaries taunt me,
while they say to me continually,
‘Where is your God?’
11 Why are you cast down, O my soul,
and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him,
my help and my God.
The thing is, the Cops were told to back off by their political masters, just like during all the rioting last year and this year.
Back off, or we'll fire you and you'll lose your pension and benefits and we'll do it in such a way you'll never get your police standards (that's the state credentials that allows the cops to carry guns and arrest people) and we'll hound you to the very ends of the Earth to keep you out of law enforcement forever.
That's the message that the police in these cities have gotten.
Any wonder why the suicide rate is so high?
And even if the cops arrested any violent arsehole, the prosecutor's office would drop charges so quickly it would generate hurricane force winds.
The real question I have is aimed towards the good Christian folk. Which is... What makes you think you'd be safe in Portland? God gave us free will so we can chose not to go to satanic hell-holes run and controlled by Satan and other evil forces. And if you do go, in a fit of Christian zeal, always expect to become martyrs if you do go in peacefully. Now, going in as a Crusade? If you got the papal or equivalent approval? Sure... Just don't expect the satan-be-damned prosecutor to take anything you do as self-defense.
Before it went dark there was a blog called "Second City Cop" detailing a lot of the silliness happening in Chicago... Lots of the scandals which for whatever reason were simply ignored by the press, etc... But they had a term they called "Gone Fetal" to describe the only way to keep their jobs in the environment up there. Watching Officers get hit with murder charges for shooting armed attackers who were in the process of assaulting other Officers? Yeah, any who could get out did. The rest either counting down to retirement or waiting on other opportunities to get out...
I have family in Portland. They are longshoreman, mainly. Last year the idiots made one try at the Longshoreman Hall. They haven't been back.
Perfect opportunity for sniper training.. See what the cops do then, when they can't find the sniper...
I live near a small town in North Carolina. Last year, I worked at the county Republican Party HQ, which was on the main drag. We had BLM and I suspect some Antifa types 2 blocks up the street at our old county courthouse, protesting the Confederate memorial across the street. The memorial had folks who would keep it surrounded the entire time that group was around to keep them from pulling it down.
City PD would not touch the peaceful protesters, even when the assaulted folks or committed civil violations. The folks defending the memorial were arrested if they smelled funny.
Everyone, right down to little old lady retired schoolteachers, who worked at the headquarters was carrying. We had several discussions on "If this happens, we do this, this and this." We all knew what would happen if we had to pull the trigger-jail would likely be the least of it.
One Saturday, a group of local folks supporting President Trump staged a vehicle parade. Pickups and cars flying various flags, and I'm sure shouting, various hand gestures and such. I wasn't there; I subscribe to Farnam's Rule. But the BLM types got pissed and decided to start attacking folks. Someone called the sheriff's department rather than 911, and the deputies showed up. Stuff got worse, and finally the State Patrol showed up in force. They actually had to force the city PD to arrest the BLMers, who were almost immediately released.
Folks, it isn't just big cities where this goes on. It happens in the suburbs and the small towns too. You just don't get the word because a complicit media keeps it quiet.
If you haven't stocked up on beans, band aids and bullets, you're way behind the power curve. Get to work, because something wicked this way comes.
The individual members of those agencies have a third option; they will be held accountable for their actions and inaction with extreme prejudice. It is their choice to expose themselves to that.
will they allow themselves to be treated like that, or will they stand up for what is right?
Pay, benefits, family, mortgage........this is not hard, Peter.
Sniper is good. Right circumstances: shoot, shovel, shut up works, too.
The problem in a nutshell:
The cops fear the politicians more than they do the public.
That needs to change. Nothing else will fix the issue.
Which is why...if and when it really all goes hot, I have no expectation that any serving member of the police or military is going to be a friend of mine. They will be my enemy. They have made it very clear already: silence and their pension is the cause they will support NOT the US Constitution. Which, any student of history can tell you, is precisely what is to be expected.
Are you in any way a cop, member of the military, or paid by the government? I don't like you, I sure as H-ll don't trust you.
The guy in Austin did, when jammed inbhis car in avstreet mob, and a "protester" came up to the drivers' window and pointed an AK variant at him.
Driver shot him.
1 year later, after a Soros-backed prosecutor was elected there, he has been charged with murder.
Everyone I know has been trained to consider all guns as loaded until you personslly confirm that they are empty, and to never point a gun at anything or anyone you are not prepared to shoot.
And if you have to use a gun in such circumstances, lawyer up before you say anything.
The police are human. The will protect themselves first, their interests (family and income/pension) second, and you a distant third, if at all.
As to why no one us shooting them, perhaps it is because this is a preparation and intelligence gathering time. You don't stamp out individual ants, you find the nest and deal with that. Andvremember the Medici rule about secrets.
