New Leonardo da Vinci painting found?

I'm amazed at the news that a new painting by the Renaissance master Leonardo da Vinci may have been identified. According to CNN, its value has been raised overnight from a few tens of thousands of dollars to over one hundred and sixty million! Talk about an appreciating asset - that one can also appreciate!

The painting was on vellum, perhaps intended to be the cover of a book rather than a framed portrait on display.

Desperately few of da Vinci's paintings have survived. There's a major archaelogical search under way at present to try to determine whether another of his works is hidden beneath later paintings.

Has this painting been authoritatively identified as Da Vinci's? Something about this painting doesn't sit right with me... A bit too cartoonish for Leonardo, don't you agree?

I think actually it was authenticated through a finger print he left in the ink. I think it's gorgeous and looks like a fairy tale princess. rather whimsical all around. I love these little articles you post and I'm glad Peter that you are doing well.
