This one's for Old NFO
Every year, fellow writer, blogger, and friend in meatspace and cyberspace, Old NFO, undertakes a pilgrimage to Augusta, Georgia, to assist in the running of the US Masters Tournament. He always seems to enjoy himself, and regales us with stories of the fun and games when he gets back.
Me, I've never played a round of golf in my life - not even a single hole. I'm one of those who regards a golf course as an unconscionable waste of a good rifle range! That being the case, I giggled loudly when I saw yesterday's "Pearls Before Swine" comic strip. Click the image to be taken to a larger view at the strip's home page.
Old NFO, that one's for you!

I like watching golf. But this is *funny*.
Hey Peter;
I agree with you and I can't see the fascination people have chasing a little white ball dressed in clothing that is odd in appearance. Old NFO is a good guy despite his golf addiction. Every one has to have a vice to repent on Sunday I suppose, LOL.
There was an ancient PBS strip that some conservative cited.
It featured one of the animals writing a letter to the gator
or crock. It was a kumbaya can't we all just get along
appeal that ended with "Why you eat x?" Gator or crock
responded with "x taste good."
This was hands down a perfect metaphor Muslim terrorism. I
see liberals driving cars with coexist bumper stickers and
am reminded of that strip.
ROTFLMAO! Thank you Peter... Snerk... Actually, it's four hours of taking your frustrations out on an inanimate object and getting some exercise! At least that's what I keep telling myself.
I frankly think that most hobbies, sports, etc. are pointless..at least if one insists on discounting the argument 'I like it'.
That said, I've always like the following variant on an old joke;
Why do they call it 'Golf'? Because 'Shit' was taken, and 'The Scotsman's Revenge' was considered impolitic.
There used to be a small range next to a local golf course. I like to believe that I ruined more than a few putts.
Golf, the game where you put a ball 2 inches in diameter against a ball 500,000,000 inches in diameter and the purpose of the game is to hit the small ball and not the large one.
My dad used to have a poster that said something similar to that.

Only ever walked around the cow pasture watching people hit that white rock with a club 2x. Once as a kid with an Uncle. Second time was in Bangkok Thailand, and the guys playing had girl caddies, that were busy on the look out for cobras in the rough. First and only time waling a round of golf in Thailand.
I concur on the waste of good rifle range space...
Someone once called it "A good walk spoiled".
