I came across this quotation from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's detective hero, Sherlock Holmes, on MeWe. Click the image for a larger view.
I wonder how we could get our politicians, journalists and influencers to absorb the truth of that statement? When push comes to shove, I reckon a huge proportion of our present troubles in this country could be avoided, or minimized, or mitigated, if only people would avoid that mistake.
Yes, yes, I know - I'm impossibly naïve to think that might even be possible, much less hope for it . . .
*Sigh*

journalists used to do that, I think. But no more.
Good luck with that... Now days you're guilty day one, and they WILL convict you, truth/evidence be damned...
Think? who are you kidding!
What are the facts? Again and again and again -- what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore divine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell," avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history" -- what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your single clue. Get the facts!
