A correction necessary, Peter. Though those shots were published on the PerthNow site, the shots themselves were taken in Queensland on the East Coast. Surfers Paradise is near Brisbane and Tweed Heads is neat the Queensland/New South Wales border. I knew as soon as i started looking that they were from Perth, as I live here. They sure are impressive shots though.
Here in the central US, when we see clouds like that, we start watching for tornadoes. The first two pictures have elements of a wall cloud in them.
