As a former pastor and qualified pastoral counselor, I've run across this sort of malpractice several times: where a therapist has gotten involved with one partner in a marriage, and abused his/her position to persuade the other to accept, or tolerate, or disregard, his adultery. In theory, at least, this should result in the disbarment of the counselor from any further involvement in the field, but professional associations have failed to make that mandatory. There's always other ways of accomplishing the same thing, of course . . .
