Astonishing earthquake damage to an olive tree

According to a Turkish news report, an olive tree was split in half, from top to bottom, by the recent earthquake there.  Google Translate provides the following translation:

[The earthquake] cut the olive tree in a garden in half and opened the distance between the pieces by 10 meters.

The sight, which those who saw could not believe their eyes, revealed the devastating effect of the earthquake.

There's more at the link, including video of the destroyed tree.  It's pretty amazing footage.

I'm glad I wasn't there to experience that . . .

(EDITED TO ADD:  If the main link (to the Turkish source) doesn't work for you, try the Google Translate link provided.  That seems to work for everyone.)

FWIW, the main link duplicated as the first and last links in the article wouldn't work for my wife's computer or mine.

The second one, the Google Translate link, worked and showed the video.

Wow! That was one heck of a slip fault shift.

What the fool is that thing rooted in that the forces split it instead of pulling the whole tree one way or another?

I suspect based on my own olive trees, that those two half trees will likely thrive just fine assuming someone fills in the earth so they don't tumble into the crack of doom. It's very hard to kill an olive tree once it's a few decades old and from the image I'd guess that one is in the century range.
