Photographer Martin Rietze has put up an amazing collection of photographs of what he terms 'alien landscapes on planet Earth' on his Web site. They include several collections of images of volcanoes. Here's a very small sample, reduced in size to fit this blog's pages.
Eruption and lava flow on Sakurajima, Japan
Villarrica, Chile
The island of Anak Krakatau, Indonesia.
(This is the site of the island formerly known as Krakatoa,
which exploded during a volcanic eruption in 1883, causing catastrophic damage.
The former island was destroyed in that eruption, but has 'regrown'
with the renewed activity of 'Anak Krakatau', or 'Son of Krakatau'.)

There are many more spectacular photographs (including larger versions of those above) on Mr. Rietze's Web site. Highly recommended viewing, both for photographers and nature lovers.

Yes, I've spent a lot of time on his site. Don't miss the glowing blue rivers of molten sulphur!
