Doofus Of The Day #888

Today's award goes to all the politically correct students and staff at Bowdoin College in Maine.

Some students wore sombreros to a tequila-themed birthday party at Bowdoin College — and others were so offended that the school had to provide them with safe spaces and counseling to deal with it.

According to the school’s newspaper, the Bowdoin Orient, the e-mail invitation to the event called it “a ‘tequila’ party” and then added, “we’re not saying it’s a fiesta, but we’re also not not saying that :) (we’re not saying that).”

This phrasing was, presumably, aiming to poke fun at the way the PC police often lose their minds over pretty much any party where tequila is present — which wound up being exactly what happened with this one.

Yep. According to the Orient, one student (1) reported that some of the attendees had been wearing sombreros at the same time as they were drinking tequila at the party, and all hell broke loose.

In an e-mail to National Review Online, sophomore Richard Arms states that there have been “3 school-wide emails from deans and our president, and there have been several ‘safe-space’ opportunities on campus for students to discuss how they were hurt and offended” by the party.

. . .

Yes — safe spaces for people who have been hurt by the very existence of tequila parties and punishment for the people responsible for them.

There's more at the link.

So they're offended by students wearing sombreros and drinking tequila?  Well, bless their little moonbat hearts . . .  What are they going to do when they get out into the big, bad world, unsheltered by the politically correct atmosphere at Bowdoin, and find that nobody gives a damn about their hurt feelings, and nobody's going to provide a 'safe space' where they can get over them?

(I can't get over the fact that Major-General Joshua Chamberlain, hero of the hour at Little Round Top during the Battle of Gettysburg [for which he was later awarded the Medal of Honor], six times wounded during the Civil War and four-time Governor of Maine, was a professor at, and later president of, Bowdoin College.  I suspect if he could speak to us from the grave, he'd have a few choice words for these special snowflakes about what being 'hurt' or 'offended' really means . . . )

Sheesh!

When they get out of school, they want to enforce PC n the world like they did on campus.

Wearing sombreros to a fiesta party is bad, but having a newspaper called the Orient hasn't freaked any of them out yet?

I kind of wondered about that too.

Their sense of special entitlement offends ME greatly. But my method of dealing with it wouldn't meet with their approval, either.

Am I the only person who thinks it is time for mandatory two years military service when you turn 18? That would probably fix many of our problems.

Some years back the late George MacDonald Frasier, the author of the Flashman series(highly recommended), wrote an article decrying the rise of political correctness in Britain and how it was affecting the country. The article's fairly long but well worth the time reading.

I don't get out enough so I don't know. Are there any parties where non-NASCAR fans wear baseball caps and drink beer right out of the bottle? Is that allowed?

As Borepatch said, they go into real life where they can enforce PC on everyone else. Corporate HR is a good example of this. SJWs move in, the Code of Conducts show up, and then everyone else is walking on egg shells.

For example:
When I got back to NC, I decided to update our new HR Director on developments. I knocked on her door, and walked in. She stopped me and stated I had intruded on her privacy by not waiting outside before entering (her door was open).

I didn't think anything of it, apologized, and vowed I would not repeat the 'offense' in the future. On my written warning, she added that I had admitted to intruding on her privacy, and she recommended I immediately be either fired, or demoted to a staff position.

On reading that, I was thinking that it was straight out of SJWAL. Unfortunately, it's becoming more and more a fact of corporate life.

The more I read on this incident, the deadlier it gets. In 2014, the lacrosse team got into trouble for cultural appropriation because some dressed up as American Indians for a Thanksgiving party.
But: lacrosse is a sport entirely appropriated from American Indians, right?
I'd like to hear about damages. What damages were suffered by what group because an off-campus party sponsored Tequila night? NOT the hang-over part; unless it was determined that any person of, say, Finnish extraction was known to be allergic to tequila, and thus were especially at risk.
By the way: the legal drinking age in Maine is 21. Unless the administration was taking steps top make sure that no under-age people were drinking at the party, they have some significantly messed up priorities.

It's only cultural appropriation when it's not white culture. I live in a college party town UIUC, and we have to deal with unofficial St. Patrick's day this weekend. If I were smart, I'd have started a small protest campaign around cultural appropriation(us locals all pretty much hate it).
