An excellent example of "Show, don't tell"
Author, blogger, and friend in meatspace and cyberspace, Sarah Hoyt, has put up a very interesting article on Mad Genius Club, the author blog where Miss D. and I are also contributors. In it, she demonstrates definitively what it means to "Show, don't tell", which is classic advice given to all authors as they're starting out. She does it entirely through a short piece of fiction, where the characters use small snippets of dialog or thought that each illustrate one facet of the whole. By the time you reach the end, the overall picture is very clear.
If you're at all interested in the craft of writing, click over there and read it for yourself (and the comments that follow). It's not long, but very illuminating. Thanks, Sarah!

Well done! Thanks for sharing that.
And bless her heart, she ends the piece with a totally unexpected change up.
