A volcano has erupted in Chile. It's one of four in the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcanic chain, nearly 600 miles south of Santiago, the nation's capital, but precisely which one of the four has erupted isn't yet clear, thanks to the clouds of smoke and volcanic ash thrown up. The chain last erupted in 1960. The present eruption has thrown up a six-mile-high plume of gas, smoke and ash, which is drifting into southern Argentina and forcing a shutdown of air travel in the area.
