Lawdog voices an increasing concern

I'm sure most of my readers have read The Lawdog Files - either the old blog, or his books.  He's a personal friend of long standing.  Lawdog is now writing on Substack, and a lot more frequently, too.  Do yourself a favor and bookmark his new online home, and visit it frequently.

Here are excerpts from one of his recent essays, which I endorse completely.

There are a whole bunch of 50-70 year-olds in the United States who fought the Cold War in dark alleys, midnight ports, and moonlit rooftops with knives, brass knuckles, and silenced pistols.

There are a whole bunch of 30-50 year-olds in the United States who fought vicious CQC battles in places like Mogadishu, Tora Bora, Fallujah, Najaf, and Mazar E Sharif.

There are 20-somethings from places like Compton, El Paso, Chicago, Detroit, Tiajuana, “the barrio”, “the ghetto”, and “the heights” who have stainless-steel teeth and thousand yard stares.

There are uncounted numbers of immigrants who have come here from war-torn hell-holes — and brought the skills and attitudes that enabled them to survive along.

On top of all that — America is the only country that I know of where a man of good record can walk into a school, hand over cold hard cash, and get a weekend of training that Special Forces in the Third World are envious of.

This is what I’m worried about.

I’m worried that when Biff the Hygienically-Challenged and his Coterie of Fanatics decide that sucker-punching neo-nazis just isn’t enough — or torching electric cars doesn’t have that same rush — and mission creep themselves into Proper Fanatical Stupidity, that some truly scary people are going to start whacking and stacking in response.

I don’t want to find myself standing over what’s left of a coyote attack and suddenly realizing that unless coyotes are carrying knives, some unsettlingly well-trained monster has just decided that he has had enough, and has gone hunting.

Y’all should be worried about this, too.

There's more at the link.  Go read it all.  It's worth it.

I fit Lawdog's fourth paragraph quoted above.  The group of friends we've gathered here in north Texas includes representatives of his first and second paragraphs, too:  and most of us have added the training mentioned in his fifth paragraph to that we received from our respective armed forces during our previous lives, incarnations and careers.

We've all seen the growing propensity to anarchic, extremist violence among certain segments of our population.  We're all worried by it . . . and we've all taken steps to ensure that if said segments of our population attempt to get frisky in our general direction, we'll be ready, willing and (very) able to do something about it.  The same can be said for a fairly sizable proportion of the residents of the small town where we live.

Therefore, around here, we don't have too many worries about squirrelly extremists.  However, where you live, can you say the same thing?  If not, go read the whole of Lawdog's article, and think about where you stand (or sit, or whatever).

Food for thought.

Peter

The system can not fix the system.

This has been a constant worry of mine for years. That it might happen, and sometimes that it won't happen when it's needed. Every new outrage and infringement has me asking myself "Is this the one?" The key thing I look for is old guys who have been pushed into a corner, and have nothing left to lose. That's the breeding ground.

I haven't wanted to talk about it, just like I don't talk about how easy it would be to shut down our society. Don't need to plant those seeds if I can help it.

I’ve got a 40+ yr old nephew who seems to be on board with antifa and has tried to pick fights at maga rallies. He goes on anti trmp rants and is telling folks to prepare for “actions” to disrupt government activity. For his parents sake I hope he doesnt get shot but it looks to me like he’s working himself up to “street action” where somebody is going to get maimed or dead.

I fail to see why it is a concern, as long as it is done wish discernment.

If the cops and the Rule of Law won't dispense justice, someone eventually will.

don't think it can't happen there. a couple weeks ago in a tiny town that i go to for good bbq, a nutter went to the grocery store w/ an ar15 aiming to kill some boomers. he got two before he was dispatched by an armed civilian. lucky too, as the town is ate up with libtards from charlottesville and yankee transplants that abhor guns.

Idiots versus idiots does not worry me. I am old enough to remember the Klan versus Commies in Greensboro. It's when innocent bystander get killed and his tribe decides to make a maximum effort to remove the guilty and friends from the community gene pool. That can boil over very quickly and law enforcement ends up protecting the "bad guys"and loses community support.

I have an uneasy feeling that something like this went on during the pre-Biden summer of love. Not so much FAFO reactions (though that certainly happened) but all those demonstrations were a target rich environment for predators. I wonder if the missing persons statistics spiked up during that uneasy time? Avoid crowds.

yeah. one of many reason why I needed to get out of Philly was just that. the "morons"
just because someone is older with gray hair doesn't mean he can't put you stupid ass down.
the bad part is they gotten bolder in time. every time the "Law" goes easy on them is a win in their mind. but they going to keep pushing until someone says "enough" and that is when school will start for the young and dumb of today. most of them are just playing at this and might get away with it. but there is always the chance they going to push the wrong guy too far and he going to say "the hell with it all" and tear into the clown.
and then the system will screw him over bigtime. see the Marine up in NYC who went thru hell over some POS who was worthless.

This is called Civil War 2.0 and nobody will know where the battle lines are at.

Heh. Funny thing over here in this part of Europe... popular majority sentiment these days is that anyone inciting violence is probably doing so on behalf of a major *foreign* political figure or party.

(Also we've got fairly decent weekend defensive courses around here too. But have to sign up in advance and pay by bank transfer or something, no walk-ins with cash.)

I've a cartoon, "If the anarchists get their wish, and truly neutralize the police, who do they feel will protect them from the rednecks?"

or someone decides that the precedent has been set, these are the new rules: protests involve firebombs, and shooting "them" as a means of protesting policy.

I'm too old for this...

Thankfully I have trouble seeing widespread craziness where I live. I live in a tourist/rural area. We a bunch of corrupt good old boy politicians mostly running things, or at least entrenched political groups that have been here for a long time. Mostly they don't abuse the average citizen. The track record for not allowing riots and crazy to get a foot hold is really good, and surprisingly for example, during the 2020 riots when people from out of town wanted to organize a protest, they let them protest exactly within the limits of the law and when certain people tried to move it past that they nabbed those and kept it from ballooning. Female police chief and she is still here. I was impressed. Our county is larger than Rhode Island and has a fair amount of resources. I think we would mostly maintain order in a civil breakdown, unless the officials pissed off the normal civilians to the extreme and that doesn't seem to be their go to move. Way more sane than what I see in most of the country nowadays. All the area's surrounding us seem to be similar also.

At least I hope sane is how it will go if something happens. I'm not what I was 10 years ago..Other than knowledge and training I'm about worthless nowadays. Just the adrenaline dump from dealing with a stress-fire situation might kill me.

and the sad part is these clowns think they really badass (?) what they do not realize is just how mean good people can get when you push them too far. like too many clowns and fools I have run into in life, they think of sucker punching you and then kick the shit out of you on the ground. and after looking at a few of these "events" I realize they do not have a clue on how to fight. then again, I saw this with clowns who had black belts in whatever too.
there gym fighting and street fighting. big difference between the two. as rules are a joke. there is only one rule. win by any means you can. ask any old grunt and he will tell you the same thing.

I'm seeing a lot of articles in left media about boomers 'hoarding' wealth and being unwilling to pass it down to the younger generation. Thats on CBC, i figure they are pushing for the nuts to take out us older guys. Our town is under 500 souls and we have 2 nuts in town publicly complaining about the greedy seniors. One is nutty enough to do something and the other is just really niave and believes everything they read on cbc.

So the concern is that the untrained radical Left will behave in ways that coerces the Right to form well-trained death squads in self-defense? And the problem is ...?

It is a 24 battle cycle and who is going to be standing guard to keep them from burning down your house at 0400? There is only one way that it works and that way is breaking down faster and faster every day. Anarchy is just that. We don't want that. Right now the law is still on their side.

The problem here in Teutonia is that one cannot even defend oneself or others, if the assailants belong to protected classes, namely the imported irritants or the domestic traitors. This extends even to calm rational argument...make salient points supported with statements and facts drawn from the suicidal, genocidal, satanic enemy, and one will be isolated, fixed, harassed, destroyed, and used as an example. The greatest problem is that hardly anyone acknowleges the true nature of the war and its true players. One must be very careful what causes and teams one places in various bearings and ranges. For example, AfD has some very good policy objectives, but just beneath them is the same totalitarian, statist sodomitic filth that the other options emphasise more. A lesbian chancellor candidate....continuation of the socialist state...a continuation of the rotten democratic monolith...it is the same commie/fascist crap that brought us the wars of the last centuries, and the doomed maga subverted bandwagon in FUSA. Be careful what you say, and what flags you plqnt on what hills. The lesser evil is still evil, and may prove to be even more destructive over a longer timeframe.

So what would be the difference from now, besides the veneer of "protect and serve" sticker on their cruiser?

That is why defense is not always the best tactic to "conserve" your resources and ability to draw breath.

And law enforcement in a system designed to keep the grift going in populated areas, protecting the criminal from repercussions.

I'm not worried about it.
I'm rooting for it to happen.

Bonus points if a few woketard LEOs get taken out as collateral damage for playing for the team that's destroying civilization. They've spent an entire generation lording their thuggish behavior over their fellow citizens, but looking the other way when the terrorists go out of control, and few thousand less cops like that is a consummation devoutly to be wished.

The survivors could wake up and smell the coffee, quit in droves, or just go home and kill themselves, and society would be the better for it, in about 0.2 seconds.

Bring it on.
The Purge is long overdue, and Committees of Vigilance did more to end lawlessness in this country than badged and sworn officers have done in a century since.

It's time to re-acquaint a large swath of society with that reality, since TPTB have ignored every other warning sign, despite having their noses rubbed in them for decades.

Where I live, I don't foresee a problem. Between the motion sensor alarms on my driveway and the fact my four German Shepherds don't let anything near the house without raising a ruckus. (As I type this, one is barking because some whitetail deer set off the motion sensor halfway down my 130 yard-long driveway.) They get me up 2 or 3 times a night as it is, just to go outside and do their business.

One of the problems with the cops these days is that those in Blue Zones mandated, about 30 years ago, that no one that had experience with firearms would be hired. The "Hire the ex-military" push due to the festivities in the ME put a dent in that wish, but didn't kill it. The apparent result is that they are working on at least a second generation of this class of badge toter that is lacking in courage. Lots of examples of this sort, where they end up standing around waiting for someone else to handle the problem they have been sent to deal with. They MAY be able to manage a single attacker that surprises them, but even in groups they can't lead, let alone act. Worthless, but they never get tossed.

I, too, have one of those. Perhaps not as far gone as yours but obsessed with the idea that those he politically disagrees with are Nazis. That can't lead to anything good.
