PCU Independence
Just in from a buddy (thanks, Jack!), these pictures of the Pre-Commissioning Unit Independence, the General Dynamics entry in the US Navy Littoral Combat Ship selection contest. When commissioned, she'll be the USS Independence.

Strange-looking beast. I'm still not altogether happy with the whole Littoral Combat Ship idea: they seem to have suffered from cost bloat and feature shrink, like so many other military projects, and I'm not sure they'll do all the Navy thinks they will. Still, it's early days. Let's see how the experiment works.
