Note the idiotic, almost suicidal behavior of the Russian motorists in the first part of this video clip. They can see a vehicle's on fire . . . they know that such vehicles contain tanks of gasoline . . . yet they keep on trying to get past it, ignoring the danger. Of course, the inevitable happens.
How someone didn't get seriously injured or killed in that explosion is more than I can say! If one of those cars had been just a bit closer at the moment of the bang, there would have been hell to pay.

Just look at Chicago, Detroit, Newark, Los Angles, etc.
For what it's worth, I really doubt that was the fuel tank - it was too fast, too violent, and didn't leave a burning pool of fuel. Given that it's a van of some kind - either work or light camper style - I'm betting on a BLEVE from a propane or similar fuel cylinder.
I had a small propane tank (1-pound grill cylinder) BLEVE at a barn fire several years ago. It was ... attention-getting.

Of all the videos I have seen about russians and their car problems. We as a nation were in FEAR of this population for 60 some odd years?

I had a fireman tell me once that they don't worry about the gas tank exploding but the differential is wht they worry about. That could be the case here
Not from a gasoline tank. My father towed lots of junk cars to scrap yards in the 50-60's, and they used to burn them to remove the non-metallic stuff. Said they never were able to get one to blow up, but it would have helped speed up the process, he thought. That, plus lots of wreck recovery jobs.
Said it was just movie/tv special effects.
I hated vehicle fires when I drove an emergency tow truck for CHP. Just as this video shows, people will drive through the smoke. What they don't realize is everything that can burn in a vehicle, except gasoline, creates toxic fumes.
Certain things can explode in a fire, although not as energetically as that BLEVE: batteries, air conditioning systems, hydraulic struts and other sealed containers, and the radiator.
The A/C system provides the biggest bang, generally. And the most dangerous fumes. The original R12 Freon was poisonous when burned, but the newer R-134a will kill you just with a leak, no fire needed. Breathing the vapours will kill your liver. Nasty shit. Shouldn't be in use. We should go back to the original R-12.
