Sunday morning music

Time for a musical smile, so to speak - and some amazing talent.

Denis Matsuev is a Russian classical pianist, one of the leading lights in that field.  He also plays jazz, and is reportedly very versatile.  I recall seeing him on TV in Johannesburg, the largest city in my former home country of South Africa, where he won an international piano competition in 1994 at the age of 23.

Here he is with a brief, tongue-in-cheek encore performance of Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from the Peer Gynt suite (not originally composed for piano), at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, China, on November 24, 2017.  It's certainly like no version I've ever heard before!

Energetic to the point of bravura.  Well played, sir!
