Today's award goes collectively to the justices of the European Union Court of Justice, who've extended a law in a way I'm sure was never foreseen or intended by its originators.
Europe's top court has declared that working fathers in Spain are entitled to take 'breastfeeding leave' everyday, even if the mother of the child is not employed.

The new legislation means that both the mother and father are allowed to leave work for an hour during the day or reduce their working day by half an hour during the first nine months following the birth of a child.
The European Union Court of Justice in Luxembourg ruled on Thursday that the Spanish law caused an "unjustified discrimination on grounds of sex" because fathers do not have the same rights as mothers.
. . .
Not giving dads the same right as mums in this case "is liable to ... keep men in a role subsidiary to that of women in relation to the exercise of their parental duties," the court ruled.
There's more at the link.
I have a suggestion for the justices. If men are to be entitled to take 'breastfeeding leave', surely they should have to prove that they're equipped for the job - in other words, be lactating, and be able to demonstrate this to the satisfaction of their hungry children?
Sheesh . . .

Um... nah, I'm not even going to comment... sigh...
And soon they'll be allowed the same leave even if they dont have a child.
It would be descriminating if only those with children were allowed this leave, wouldn't it?
Oh, and dont laugh too much yet. Unless you put a real hard stop on your current government, and toss them all out in a huge landslide so big that they will never try again, these things will happen in the US sooner than you might think. Once you start down that road to "better welfare state", these things will start happen more and more.
How sad: Once Spanish men were lecherous. Now they are expected to leche-ous.
