Sunday morning music for Easter
From Handel's "Messiah", and from my favorite recording of it, here's the final two choruses: "Worthy is the Lamb" and "Amen".
Found a video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdlyoEpCV9k My favorite might be (*might*) "And he shall purify", but it's been a while since I was able to listen the whole work properly.
As a singer, "And He Shall Purify" is my "If-I-survive-this-I'll-make-it-through-the-rest" moment. It's an amazing movement, but very hard to make sound right.
My favorite recording is the Toronto Symphony under Andrew Davies with the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir. Kathleen Battle as soprano solo, and Samuel Ramey is the bass.
Not exactly Easter, but still one of my favorites "Ye Shall Have a Song" by Randall Thompson, from _The Peaceable Kingdom_: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tt3gkajJToQ It's not the best recording of that chorus, but their pure joy!
Any recording of Messiah makes me miss my father. He was a college music professor, and for 20 years, the first Sunday in December was Messiah Sunday. That always signaled the beginning of the Christmas season in our house.

Take care.
I agree on "He shall purify". Always sends chills down my spine.
Here's another good song for today.

Blessings to you and yours, Peter.
Those are my two favorites. Happy Easter to you and Miss D, Peter.
Happy Easter! He is risen!
The last two chorus are excellent but the work as a whole is simply sublime, a masterpiece. Fortunately, you linked to the whole thing. :)
Christ is Risen! Indeed he is Risen.
