I did that with macaroni once. I was so exhausted I fell asleep in the porch chair. Woke up to one of the worst smells ever occasionally drifting my way from the kitchen window. It took days for that smell to completely dissipate...

When we moved to West Berlin back in the day, we ruined a pot by boiling tap water too low. It caught fire. The water, not the pot.
We bought a new pot, a filtration pitcher, and signed up for a water delivery service.
